"War of Ideas" Based on Bin Laden Tape

Posted on 10/29/2004 5:10:55 PM PDT by baseball_fan

This is a WAR OF IDEAS which WE HAVE TO WIN based on OBL's tape. It is more dangerous than it first looks! Excuse the separate post, but OBL is trying to win the hearts and minds out from under us, and we can't let him! Here are points made that have to be rebutted in a coherent message and actions that gains resonance with the larger public if we are to gain the intelligence and cooperation to defeat this scourge imho. Vote Bush!:

>"We want to regain the freedom of our Muslim nation": OBL is trying to establish this as a worldwide Islamic political movement rather than just a Pan-Arabic or Saudi-only objective. It reminds one of the religious wars of the Middle Ages only with modern technology, WMD and political totalitarian ideology. The larger Muslim community must protect their religion from being hijacked by these unGodly extremists

>"we saw the oppression of the American Israeli coalition on our people in Palestine and Lebanon": OBL is attempting to ally it to a global Intifada thereby trying to isolate the U.S. and Israel alone in the world

>"a general feeling of rejecting oppression and gave me a hard determination to punish the oppressors.": OBL trying to ally himself to the generally disaffected, the have-nots, a Robin Hood figure only a murderous and vengeful Robin Hood

>"similarity between the administration of Bush the father and the Arab regimes said Bush learned so much from them during his visits." ..."half of them are ruled by military and the other half by sons of kings and presidents and our experience with them is long. Both parties are arrogant and stubborn and the greediness and taking money without right"..."he is being influenced by these regimes": OBL attempting to lump together the U.S. to corrupt Arab regimes stealing from the masses

>"So he transferred the oppression of freedom and tyranny to his son": OBL attempting to co-opt the term "freedom" as actually being "license" instead of true freedom, trying to corrupt and stigmatize U.S. message by using our own words against us

>"he didn't forget to transfer his experience from the rulers of our region to Florida to falsify elections to benefit from it in critical times.": OBL trying to make common cause with the disgruntled in the U.S., to say Bush is illegitmate and disobedience justified

>"we never thought that the high commander of the US armies would leave 50 thousand of his citizens in both towers to face the horrors by themselves when they most needed him": OBL blaming Bush for the deaths!! Shows how out of touch with reality he is, everything is the victims' and the enemy's fault, he is the wrath and servant of Allah, i.e. mass murder entitlement

>"Your security is in your hands. Each state that doesn’t mess with our security has automatically secured their security.": OBL is offering peace terms to those who leave the Middle East to Al Qaeda while continuing war against the rest when in reality his terms are essentially utopian, infinite and totalitarian and after he eats us he will then turn and eat the rest. As he has said elsewhere whenever any Muslim anywhere is being oppressed the fight will continue, essentially co-opting all Muslims, and I get to define what oppression is. Oh by the way, this means I rule and talk only to Allah. Never mind that the U.S. has come to a large number of Islamic majority countries rescue, and more Muslims have been killed by other Muslims than anyone else

>"if the answer to this oppression is considered bad terror, then we need to do it" ..."[announcer] He reminded Americans of a few warning messages through various news media": OBL attempting to justify using any heinous means necessary to invoke terror to win, that it is the victim's fault, and they have been warned, this is how he attempts to square it with his religion

Military force alone cannot win this. We have to match and defeat Bin Laden and Al Qaeda on all these points.

It will be a lot easier to talk to any genuinely peaceful
Muslims after all the jihadis are obliterated via military
force.

"This is a WAR OF IDEAS which WE HAVE TO WIN"

I like the idea of overwhelming him with our humanitarian logic, but a 5.56mm hole between his eyes would be nice, too.

I couldn't believe the 'stolen election' reference either, and how dare UBL mock Bush for not being in NYC 'while 50,000 people endured those horrors' when it was UBL who caused those horrors to all those people.

And we are guilty because Israel went into Lebanon? Because we don't turn our backs and let the Palestinians run rampant and destroy Israel? How exactly have all the scattered Muslims in the world become bin Laden's people and his 'nation'?

Military force can win it, if its applied in the proper manner.

That swarmy prof. from Va. on O'Reilly just make a point that I can see being used by the opposition in the near future. The point being that: Osama came out with this video in order to get Americans to vote for G.Bush because he needs Bush to motivate the Al Qaida terrorists.

I had a similar discussion with a coworker just today. His idea was that we should try further diplomacy and search out "the root causes of Arab anger". I simply dismiss the latter as total naivete. There is only one possible way that further diplomacy might make a difference: if the leaders of the Arab states actually decided to stop harboring and financing terrorist activities and started rounding up, trying in courts, and summarily executing Al-quada scumbags (and related Hamas vermin).

The ONLY way that we might see some of this is if we are in a position of strength - the kind of strength that comes from a demonstration that we will destroy everything that gives sustenance to terrorists and that we will wipe out (in a big way) anybody who harbors these vermin. We need to make it clear that national borders will not be enough to guarantee safe harbor for OBL and his murderous minions.

We need to make it crystal clear to the likes of Syria and Iran (among others) that we are no longer fooling around. There will be no more Somalia-like pussyfooting. Trying to adopt a Jimmy Carter (or a John Kerry) timid/appeasement approach will not work - history has already demonstrated that with alarming clarity throughout the 20th century. President Bush is the man. The Bush Doctrine is the most refreshing political concept since Reagan bombed that moron in Libya, Kadafi.

Military force WILL win this war. Force is not wrong when force is used righteously in the name of Good against Evil. The people of Afghanistan see it in their hearts that we weren't there to become oppressive occupiers like the Soviets. We gave them liberty, and the ability to stand on their own two feet without fear. We have earned the friendship of some of the strongest willed people on this planet by helping them, and they will pay us back without our ever asking - THEY HAVE HONOR. At this point, the majority of them would gladly give their lives DEFENDING US.

Iraq is beginning to see the same thing. By holding on just a little longer, and by pacifying places like Fallujah (which even Saddam couldn't control) the Iraqis understand that we are true to our word. By taking these losses and not running, we've gained respect among those in the Arab world that can see past the end of their nose. We've not only instilled fear among those who should fear us, but blood brother type respect among those who are our friends now. OBL is merely trying to cast his spell upon the ignorant (and there are LOTS of them over there) just as the DNC has cast their spell on the ignorant here.

OBL knows that if we succeed in Iraq, he's finished - not only on this earth, but his entire system of organized crime pretending to be a religion (all to make him rich and feed his enormous ego) will have been made invalid. Good will have beaten his false God, and he knows it. Just like the DNC, the screams and pleas from al Qaida will become more shrill as their time comes closer to ending.

ENJOY IT!!!

I agree. Putting Kerry in the White House would be a big step backward. In the end, even that chicken-poop dirtbag [note, here, that I am being "cute" with the wording so as not to upset those of delicate stomach] would have to exercise the muscle of the US, but by the time he stopped being a wuss and trying to "negotiate" with the vermin, and playing games with the corrupt UN mobsters, and trying to placate his cadre of anti-war, anti-freedom morons at home, it would be a much bigger, and costlier war both in terms of money and human life. (In some ways, it would be a repeat of the presidential election of 1964.) No, the only man for the job is President Bush; I only hope upon reelection that he gets a little tougher.

here is an interpretation from a Justice Dept. Source that Shepard Smith |(Fox News) made as a voice over a live feed of a Bush rally tonight:

Shep

"I tell you this with this information from our sources at the DoJ, according to US officials, US intelligence analysts are concerned that the tapes from UBL and the one about which we just spoke {Adam Gahdahn (yahyah)} might be a signal for an impending attack... Quoting here: "Analysts have for months believe that the emergence of a Bin Laden message would signal an impending attack" that from the official ... another quote here "there is a seriousness and an urgency with the emergence of this Bin Laden tape that surpasses anything we've seen before." Again - that from a US official quoted to our sources at the DoJ. The official said analysts are linking the 2 tapes and examining the tone and symbolism of the 2 tapes. They believe that the 1st tape from someone who appears to be an American, and may be this Adam Gahdahn, symbolizes brute force and al Qaeda's presence in the US. .. the offical said that the message of that tape is "We are Here"... the tone of the Bin Laden tape shows an attempt to justify the killing of innocents the official said... much more on this from our sources at the DoJ...

There is definitely a place for force, but we have to have the intelligence and cooperation to be in a position to apply that force, and much of that will be fought on the level of the war of ideas. We are starting to get that now in Falluja resulting in many safehouses being destroyed before even going in. There is no way can control 50 million people - 25m in Iraq and 25m in Afghanistan with the small number of troops we have there if the general populace is against us. We also need it more widely with Al Qaeda; I think we are showing significant progress - capturing 2/3rds of the original Al Qaeda leadership, but they have the capacity to spawn more.

This speech by Bin Laden shows how clever and deliberate he is in trying to isolate us and alienate all those around us. If there is a lot of disruption surrounding the election count with people in the street, people in hallways screaming Bush stole the election and disobedience, I think Bin Laden would like to fan those flames and co-opt that disruption for his own purposes of undermining the country - bringing a simmer to a boil. That has to be a prime date for him, I suspect, to attack us. We have to have intelligence and cooperation to preempt that - as well as the goodwill of our fellow citizens. It is essential we be able to answer Rumsfeld's question which he said he didn't know the answer to: "Are we creating more terrorists than we are killing?"
