Great Freeper Reporting!
I'm in Texas, and I posted this story a while back, but about 2 years ago or so, my friend's dad got a call from a friend of his that said basically, "Dude, my wife and I were on our way across the border for some cheap margaritas tonight, and we saw one of your fleet trucks pulled over about 10 miles this side of the border with the border patrol and state troopers checking it out and your driver was in handcuffs."
My friend's dad--who sends his well-recognized fleet trucks back and forth across the border on business ALOT and thus just usually would get waved across by friendly border guards--called the authorities and was told that the truck did in fact have the same color, name, markings and logo as one of his fleet trucks, but when he was told the make and model, it WAS NOT a make and model in his fleet.
Yep.....someone had counterfeited a truck to resemble his in hopes that they would just be waved across, and they WERE. They wouldn't have been caught, either, if they hadn't been speeding 10 miles this side of the border.....I try not to think about it much, or I don't sleep at night.
You probably have a point. We need to know if there are
certain buzz words we should avoid that adds to the
clutter.
maroon, yup. i never was in the leo field, and know several southwest virginia and eastern tn troopers. all are pretty much above board. if they're doing this kind of stuff, they aren't living it!
i'm sorry if someone does have corrupt leos: violated trust is maddening as hell. the karmic wheel is awfully heavy as it rolls over them.....
New way of generating revenue.

Actually his point was that the rest of the officers shouldn't turn a blind eye toward it, I believe.
Happened at the sub base on the Georgia coast too.
Two statements in complete contradiction with each other. Is not demanding that employers provide affordable (or any other kind) of health insurance demanding an entitlement?
Employer-provided insurance is a nice perk, but it is not a requirement. Also, employers don't set the rates for insurance premiums, so where is it in their power to provide "affordable" insurance?
If an employer is forced to provide insurance for all employees, can he raise the prices on his products or services enough to offset the cost and remain competitive in the market? Or, how many of your co-workers will have to be let go in order to pay for your and everyone else's insurance? Or will you be one of those who is let go?
As one of the themes of Atlas Shrugged states (paraphrased): 'I have no right to claim the fruits of another man's labors'.
"Also, employers don't set the rates for insurance premiums, so where is it in their power to provide "affordable" insurance?" EWven small group rates for health insurance are lower than individual rates. Employers can bundle their employees and rpovide a portion of the premium, with the majhority of the premium coming from employee paychecks. That's how employers can 'provide affordable health insurance'. Next question?
Then we're on to the next paragraph -- can the small employer increase prices of his products or services to offset his part of insurance costs? Or does he lay off x number of employees? Is the Pope Catholic? Does a one-legged duck swim in a circle? Are the Kennedys gunshy?
Thank for the heads up - one of my sons manages a trucking Co. that cover the US - but today I thought he was in that area - just called him to see - yup- heading for the border on I-65 as we speak.
He's not worried as he's "running legal" - i.e., shut down 2 days ago for the legal " hrs after" which makes the owner of the co., upset cause heretofore, he always had the truckers running over the legal time.Bur my son is trying to get it thru his thick skull that they are cracking down with the new laws that went into effect in Jan.
Maybe if my son gets stopped, the owner will get a clue...he will have avoided some big time fines and insurance problems
So what are you saying - the Troopers AND the Nat'l Guard AND the FBI AND etc are all pulling off a scam together to grab a few bucks.
What did you have in YOUR coffee this morning?
Small businesses can't afford the much higher rates they have to pay than Corporate America who gets a big cut for group rate. This is one of the things "W" is fighting for - to give small businesses the right to get the same rates as Big business....
The dims hate small business because they can't control them and do everything they can to make it all but impossible to operate.
Better be sure to vote "W"
Amen.
Some that are so upset - if a terrorist got thru and impacted - imPLODED - his/her family - bet they'd be screaming: YOU SHOULD HAVE STOPPED THIS! IT WAS YOUR JOB!
Agreed - and long before the Patriot act - BUT
name one time when all the agencies combined : Troopers, Nat'l Guard, FBI, etc - to perpetrate a shakedown? Use your head.
You had best check out the rules of theroad..... he's right, you're wrong.
Bigs rigs must comply.
In fact, we in the trucking business do get tickets in multiple states for the same infraction.
In fact, we in the trucking business, do pay taxes for each state we pass through.
In fact, we in the trucking business, are required, if applicable in that state (and many do), to have a business license, in each state we pick up or deliver to.
:O)
P
"In fact,"
I'm well aware how it works. I was charged with negotiating such tickets down or getting them dismissed if possible.
Such programs as IFTA, etc. do simplify to some extent. Likewise, where some states don't have reciprocity everyone has more headaches.
Most don't realize how friggin heavily regulated the trucking industry is. Likewise, most don't realize that it's the four wheelers causing the accidents not the semi's. :-)
