Did he say that because of the low quality of the ammunition, that they had continual "cooks-off" throughout the day until all the ammunition was destroyed in a fire?
Does that mean they burned it up or does that mean that the heat caused the ammunition to fail and incinerate?

They aren't. Weapons of mass destruction are designed to kill hundreds of thousands, not hundreds. They are nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) weapons, not high explosive (HE), "assault" weapons, verbal, or Saddam himself, all of which I have heard described as weapons of mass destruction. That is why I flinch every time I hear the term WMD used...there's too much wiggle room for what constitutes a WMD. Instead, a more proper term would be NBC weapons, which is used by the military to describe nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.
