A nationwide scientific poll conducted by the polling firm Wirthlin Worldwide shows that a significant majority of Americans believe that abortion is "almost always bad" for women -- even when they know a woman who has had an abortion.
The poll of 1001 respondents, conducted for Americans United for Life, a public interest bioethics law firm, asked three questions:
1) Just generally, do you believe that abortion is almost always a good thing for a woman or almost always a bad thing for a woman?
Base -- 1001 respondents
Almost always a good thing -- 230 (or 23 percent)
Almost always a bad thing -- 609 (or 61 percent)
Don't know/refused -- 162 (or 16 percent)
2) Do you personally know someone who has had an abortion?
Base - 1001 respondents
Yes -- 640 (or 64 percent)
No -- 335 (or 33 percent)
Don't know/refused -- 27 (or 3 percent)
3) From your observation, was that generally a positive or negative experience?
Base - 640 respondents (those who responded "Yes" to question 2)
Positive experience -- 256 (or 40 percent)
Negative experience -- 352 (or 55 percent)
Don't know/refused -- 31 (or 5 percent)
"This poll shows that Americans are increasingly aware that legalized abortion harms women," said Dorinda Bordlee, Esq., senior legislative counsel for Americans United for Life.
"Over thirty years of abortion has wreaked havoc on women's physical and psychological heath, and has served to facilitate the sexual exploitation of women. This poll shows that Americans are facing the reality that the violence of abortion leads to disaster for women, our children, and our culture. Abortion has not turned out to be the great liberator we were told it would be."
Agreed.
Agreed.
Abortion is morally wrong, but some people justify doing it, and i have no right to forbid them. Their morality must comes from their faith and their hearts, and not mine.
Always bad.
Killing abortionists is morally wrong, but some people justify doing it, and i have no right to forbid them. Their morality must comes from their faith and their hearts, and not mine.
Murder is morally wrong, that is why society outlaws it. Don't get trapped into a leftist ploy to convince us that morality is a "personal" issue. That argument works for religious issues, but this is not a theological issue -- it is an issue of whether or not killing a child is right or wrong.
Pedophilia is morally wrong, but some people justify doing it, and i have no right to forbid them. Their morality must comes from their faith and their hearts, not mine.
AND SO FORTH.
Actually, society has decided that it has the "right" to punish murderers. And if the leftist judiciary would understand its proper function, then society could vote and outlaw abortion. I truly believe a vote would satisfy nearly everyone on this issue.
Absolutely the greatest tragedy in American history. Hopefully we will see it abolished just like slavery.
Life Ping.
Dear wagglebee,
You do understand I was being ironic.

I agree. The Partial Birth abortion issue and Gay marriage is an issue that Bush should speak to at every opportunity. The majority of Americans agree with him and disagree with Kerry on these two family values issues. There is not enough hard hitting facts being said in the stump speeches- missed opportunity here big time!
I would argue that abortion is the single greatest tragedy in HUMAN history.
People always wonder why the german people didn't do something to stop the nazi's from killing the jews...
While they stand idlely by and watch 10's of millions of childern be slaughtered...
The doctors, judges, and politicians responsible for this crime against humanity should be hunted to the ends of the earth and brought to justice even if it takes 100 years.
This sounds very benign, but when you are an old sick person, and the government wants to get rid of you because you cost them too much in medical care, euthanasia will be the practical solution. You won't have any more to say about it than those babies who were murdered for convenience. In fact, the elderly at least had a long life, something the babies were deprived of. So no whining from the geezer section when the big E gets approved by some future Supreme Court.
I remember the horror I felt when I studied ancient history in school and learned that the Greeks and Romans sometimes exposed unwanted babies, and that Baal-worshippers cruelly sacrificed their children to Baal.
The Greeks, at least, refrained from actually murdering their babies. If the gods willed it, exposed babies at least had a chance of survival.
As for the poll, much depends on the questions asked. The MSM usually ask something like, "Do you believe that a woman should have a constitutional right to choose?" Somehow that sounds different from a question that actually includes the word "abortion," which is why the MSM almost always avoids the word, except when they label pro-lifers as "anti-abortionists."
