Tame's activism update: I protested a group of anti-war protestors at church.

Before you read this Freep report, CAVEAT: I believe that Ann Coulter’s statement regarding Muslim terrorists that ”we should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity” is a reasonable proposition.

Last Sunday, October 24, 2004, I attended Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield, California, but I never made it into the service. There was a pro-Palestinian/anti-Israeli group of people identifying themselves as “Project Strait Gate” protesting the church.

Actually, these folks didn’t even seem to know each other that well, and did not seem familiar with the group with which they were protesting.

Now, Valley Baptist is one of the biggest Southern Baptist churches in the state with, I think, close to 6,000 members.

The members of this group held signs which read “No More Wars for Israel”, “Blessed The Peace Makers”, “CHOOSE LIFE NOT WAR”, and

“PROJECT

STRAIT

GATE

whtt.org

480.947.3329”

But another sign that caught my attention and got me really angry was a sign that read something like “Bush…[with a picture of Dubya]…Christianity?”

Even though I disagree with President Bush on many things, I will give him the benefit of the doubt when he says he’s a Christian (unless he gives me a reason to think otherewise). And it made me angry that this group apparently questions his Christianity simply because he knows that terrorists must be killed.

Now, I happened to have a video camera with me because this particular Sunday was the grand opening of the new Children’s ministry building, and I wanted to tape my friends working in the new building.

I also happened to have a few Bush/Cheney signs in my car. So I went and video taped a few minutes of my friends working in the new children’s ministry building, but then instead of going to the church service, I headed out to where the protestors were located and went to work.

As I headed out to the church entrance where the protestors were, a husband and wife I will refer to as Jill and Bill (who were headed into the service), flipped a u-turn while walking and decided to join me in my protest of the protestors.

I went to my car, got some of my Bush/Cheney signs, and gave a couple of them to Jill and Bill.

Right away two of the female “Gate” protestors who I will refer to as Peggy and Lizzy, started in on us as we approached with our Bush?Cheney signs. The Gate people were on the sidewalk in front of the church and we were walking over the grass between the church and the sidewalk. I had the tape rolling (and so did the other side):

Lizzy argued that we church member with the Bush/Cheney signs were violating I.R.S. 501c3 Federal laws because we were not clearly off church property.

I argued that she did not understand the 501c3 laws.

Peggy argued that voting was unbiblical. I argued that she did not know what she was talking about.

I also engaged the men who were affiliating themselves with this group. Their “leader” seemed to argue the point with me that the collateral damage (young innocent children who were killed by U.S. forces) made the war on terror in Iraq (and other places) unjustified.

His arguments seemed to fall apart when I asked him if he believed any war, including WW2 was justified in spite of collateral damage. He answered that SOME of WW2 was justified…yeah…right.

Anyway, Jill, Bill, and I stayed in front of the church with our Bush/Cheney signs. At some point, Jill went to the store to buy some poster boards and markers. She made a sign that was intended to make it clear that we were not with the other “gate” group.

Also, besides a brief conversation we I had with one of the other gate guys (who seemed really confused), we kept our distance from them so as not to be mistakenly identified with them.

Still, I think some of the members thought we were with the “gate” group.

In between services, Pastor Roger made his way out to talk to the Gate group leader to see what the group was about.

BTW, I told Jill and Bill about Freerepublic.com. They had not heard of it. I will be folowing up to see if they would like to get more involved.

So, have any of you other freepers come across this group? Have any of you noticed protestors at your respective churches?

Don't those Palestinian-loving, socialist pigs know what suicide bombers do? Hypocracy at its finest.

No, it's not. It is unreasonable and unconservative, and anyone who advocates the forced conversion of anyone to any religion thinks they are doing the nation or the Republican Party or our President any big favors by carrying water for al Qaeda, they are mistaken.

a converions does not have to be a forced to be a conversion. No one said anything about individual "forced" conversions. God will make sure everyone believes and bows before him in the afterlife.

dump the straw man fallacies bfore posting.

The Suicide bombers (that the leader of this gate group seems to defend) purposefully kill innocent children and women and think they're going to get 72 virgins tail as a result, and Mr. gate leader has the gall to talk about children accidentally killed by U.S. troops!

hypocrisy at it's worse.

anyone who advocates the forced conversion of anyone to any religion...

Ann Coulter very effectively uses hyperbole as a tool for getting under the skins of liberals. She seems to derive immense enjoyment from ringing their bells.

By focusing on a traditional Islamic tactic (forced conversions) She is also making effective use of irony.

A very smart and perceptive woman.

No, but it was implied in the sentence. We haven't killed even a mass-murdering madman such as Saddam Hussein, so anyone who thinks we should invade Saudi Arabia and murder their royal family is just plain nuts.

She's BEAUTIFULLY gifted at it, too :o)

So do I :o)

No, it was not. you may have wanted to read that in. but that says more about you than the sentence.

We haven't killed even a mass-murdering madman such as Saddam Hussein

Shame, too.

so anyone who thinks we should invade Saudi Arabia and murder their royal family is just plain nuts.

anyone who does not believe that terrorist leaders whould not be killed, is just plain nuts. now, as to who specifically those leaders are, watch the straw man.
