In reality, it was Mackris who started the settlement talks, last week. If she had a case, she would go to court. As it is, she likely got pocket change and a reputation as a ball-buster.

Bill O'Reilly needed to settle. He's the celebrity with a reputation to protect, but his reputation will never be the same. He said last week on his radio show he's not a victim, and he also said that he was STUPID. He warned other guys "out there" not to be stupid. We may never know the details of the settlement, or who it favored.

I'm new here. I tried to add IDIOT. It didn't take. I must have broke a rule. Your observation was good for some laughs. Thanks.

You're preaching to the choir, although some claims are worth defending. I've told my boss on a number of occasions that if we're going to have to pay up, I'd rather pay our attorneys than some lowlife scam artist who saw our logo and went "Cha-ching, cha-ching! My ship has come in." But that's why my boss only gives me free reign on claims worth less than a couple thousand $, LOL!

In addition to the defamation/sexual harassment questions, there was a question of criminal wrongdoing (extortion) on Makris' part. That might have been O'Reilly's ace. For all we know, he may have been a real gentleman in this matter and let her just walk away with what she had in her pocket.

If she settled for$4mil, then the attorney get 65% of that. She's not going to be left with enough to live on without a job. This is chump change, considering the $60mil she asked for. Something smells.

hey, Im no lawyer. O'Reilly is an arrogant jerk no doubt, and sounds like something he would do. just trying to determine what that statement means...certainly if O'Reilly paid $$$ it would look bad

One million is my guess. O'Reilly is cheapskate and will go to court rather than go higher.

I've had the rare "will never settle, my good name is too important" cases, but it just makes business sense to settle most of the time. What a world.

"Now where did that hole card go?"

That hole card may have been nothing but the deuce of clubs. Might even have been nonexistent. We don't know and never will know -- unless one of the parties to the agreement violates the confidentiality clause and produces proof. I doubt that's going to happen.

She must've had tapes. I knew he was guilty.

What's the outcome?

She withdraws all charges; O'Reilly withdraws all countercharges. Parties agree to keep everything secret. Only question remaining: How much did O'Relly pay?

do agree that I'd like to see a new show in BOR's timeslot, though. Hannity works well on H&C, so let's not move him from there. Possible replacement candidates: Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Rush Limbaugh, Zell Miller.

my vote is for all of the above !!!!!!

Would you settle if you weren't?

Fox's liability insurance carrier will probably pick up the tab. I don't think O'Reilly had much say in the matter. Even if he were innocent, it really would not be his call if the claim is an insured risk.
