How long after we left our base in the Phillipines did the Islamic terrorists move in? Anyone know?They were always there. The "Moros" (Spanish for Moors/Moslems) were on Mindanao before Magellan, were a constant thorn in the side of the Spanish, and gave us no end of trouble between 1898 and say 1913 or so. In fact, it was due to the Moros of the Philipines that one of the most recognizable, and effective handguns in the world was invented, the M1911 .45 automatic pistol.
After WW2, and the Philipines gained their independence, they were still around, but largely quiescent, due to our presence in the region. Once we left, they became bolder, believing that the government in Manila would not hold the line against them...
