I wouldn't mail my absentee ballot either. I've voted absentee before in my county and I did it at the Clerk & Recorder's office during the 1992 election. I voted right there in the office, and folded my ballot and handed it to the county clerk and watched her drop it into the ballot box of my local precinct, then I walked out.

You also have to be weary about dropping it in a box. In Florida thousands of ballots were thrown out for not having a post mark.

I filled in my ballot at the city clerk's office. I, too, have been telling people to hand deliver their ballots. Leave nothing to chance!

I gave it to some guy who came to my door claiming to be from an organization called "Acorn." He said he liked the Bush signs on my front lawn and would be happy to mail my ballot for me. Did I do wrong?

I believe it states on the envelope that you cannot hand deliver it.

Already hand delivered to the Registrar of Voters in Tacoma. I wasn't about to mail it, or put it in one of their convenient "drop off" spots in the county. We personally handed them over.

I agree. I'm voting in person although I'm currently residing several states away from my hometown. Those stories of "lost" absentee ballots just confirm I made the right decision.
Come on everyone, what's more important... $300 or W as President?

Here's an interesting twist in California. I had to mail my absentee as I will be out of the state on election day. I took it to the counter as I had other things to be mailed. Dave, the friendly postal clerk, stopped me as I was leaving and said, "Your ballot just made it."
Seems that because there are two ballots this year in California (LOTS of propositions) some of the envelopes weigh 1.1 oz. Thus, if they weigh more than one ounce and only have a 37 cent stamp they will be returned. I've been telling everyone to make sure they put 56 cents on their envelopes, but NOTHING in the instructions indicated that the absentee mailing could require additional postage.

I decided this last night. I asked my husband if he wanted to mail the ballots or drop them off. He said he wanted to mail them. I had a bad feeling about it and told him since the polls open about the same time he leaves for work in the morning (6 am), he could just drop them off on the way. Hope he listens to me.

You know, why can't people just GO AND VOTE AT THE POLLS ON ELECTION DAY???
Sorry, but if there isn't a good reason for voting absentee (note the name "absentee") just don't be lazy and go vote on Tuesday.

A few years ago, I had to vote Absentee here in Oklahoma. At that time, you HAD to mail the ballot. No exceptions.
I suppose they might have changed the law since then, but you should check your local laws first, before assuming hand delivery is the best route.

Either hand-deliver your ballot to your polling station on election day (you won't have to wait in line -- just drop it in the box) IF you do your ABSENTEE ballot will be tossed out! Here is the rule for Alabama:
Absentee Voting Eligibility
In the 2004 elections, a voter may cast an absentee ballot if he or she WILL BE ABSENT FROM THE COUNTY on election day
If the election commission finds a ABSENTEE ballot in the box from the polling location on election day -- it will at least be challenged as fraudulent or even be discarded!!
DON'T FOLLOW THE ADVICE IN THIS POSTING!
