Why is it called a blood moon?Because, as time goes byit will change from white, to yellow, to orange, to red, then back to normal. This is because at the total eclipse portion, the only light hitting the moon will be from sunset and sunrise on opposite sides of the earth. The high frequency colors (UV, purple, blues, greens, etc) get blocked, so only red/orange gets through. So, if you hit the moon with red light ... it looks red. Light is funny that way :-D
