A third-party group started running advertisements on behalf of Tom Daschle Wednesday. The move by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee comes despite the fact that Daschle, the Senate minority leader, has for months said he wouldn't accept help from outsiders. Daschle has said that candidates have the ability to control many third-party ads. But, he said Tuesday, he is not going to stop the DSCC from running its spots. "Once again, Tom Daschle says one thing in South Dakota and does another thing back in Washington, D.C.," said Dick Wadhams, campaign manager for Republican challenger John Thune.
For more on this story read Thursday's American News.
Daschle is running scared, and with good reason. He's going DOWN on Tuesday.
He's already got tons more money than Thune. What good will more money spent do? The NRA ads running now are devastating. Right during pheasant season, too. Thune's got some good, positive ads, ads like I've never heard anywhere before that are going for him.
What is Thune polling like? I've heard Tommy is going down, but I haven't heard by how much...
Little Tommy is clearly even MORE disturbed than USUAL!!!
Rasmussen shows Thune up 49-46.
Polls look good for Thune. The latest polls have him up by 3 or 4. Scroll down just a little.
Thanks. I was on RCP yesterday looking for the State polls and obviously failed to look at the right side of their page. Duh.
I agree, Thune has some outstanding ads. A while back I received a flyer in the mail from Daschle's office stating that Thune was a lobbyist for a big evil drug company. And now in today's Watertown PO, Thune has a full page ad showing that Linda Daschle (wife) received $400,000 for being a lobbyist for drug companies. (Don't have the newspaper in front of me right now.) I really think this election is going to break for Thune.
Actually, to be fair, this particular story was covered in today's Argus. I about fell off my chair.
Thune has run an outstanding campaign. If we can't win this one, the GOP in SD may as well dismantle and rebuild from the bottom. The thing is, if we can get all of our people to vote, it's ours.
The debates killed him.
I would love to see that meansprited Daschle go down in flames.
Oh, Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, your deceit and lack of ethics saddens, truly saddens me.
Never fear, I will feel much better when you are unemployed.
Well, that's the beauty of having a wife that's taking bribes and selling influence! She can offer "advantages" to interest groups who will come in and advocate whatever she wants, knowing that they'll get legislation/intervention they want in return. The good thing (for the Dasholes) about this is that these bribes in kind probably don't get reported in their secret tax return.
And now Daschle's ads complain that Thune is dragging his family into it, as if Linda Daschle's income has nothing to do with household income. On the Daschle vs. Thune blog, Larry Pressler's wife is pointing out the double standard and reminding people of the Dem campaign to hound her while she was in office.
You're kidding! Really? Ever since the Argus didn't allow posts here I rarely go there. I'll have to check that out.
Just got Thune's 'dogs lining up to vote' prairiedog ad today. Loved it.
Made me think that maybe "Who Let the Dogs Out?" might be appropriate to play anywhere Daschle shows up.
I regularly walk past an office building on Massachusetts Avenue (Capitol Hill in DC). This building houses any number of liberal/activist groups. Last week I saw a new sign: DASHPAC. After doing a double take, I looked at the caption under the sign. Yep, it's the Tom Daschle Political Action Committee. So it seems like there is another "insider" organization raising $ for Tom.
