This dimwit should be impeached, as should any justice who would employ non-U.S. legal principles in interpreting our Constitution.

Everyone should read the International Court's opinions just to be clear why we can never allow such namby pamby horse hockey to ever control the rights of Americans. No stare decisis; dissenting opinions and the opinions of "esteemed" scholars of international law hold as much weight as the opinion of the court. NO THANK YOU. I prefer the constitution--> the judical power is vested in ONE SUPREME COURT.

As if we needed another reason to make sure GWB is re-elected. There's a very good possibility that (4) vacancies will come up within the next term. Hopefully, she'll be one of them.

Lord Almighty.

Reagan is rolling over in his grave.

Can we get Justice Thomas to spank this missive down a couple of notches?

According to Title 28, Chapter I, Part 453 of the United States Code, each Supreme Court Justice takes the following oath:

"I, [NAME], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as [TITLE] under the Constitution and laws of the United States. So help me God.''

Impeach the oath-breaker

O'conner has no place in the US Supreme Court. So-called "INternational Law" is not in any way provided for in the court's duties. The Supreme Court's specific duty is to abide by the US Constitution and to measure laws by the standard set forth in that document.

This commie "female dog" is showing herself to be the exact sort of traitor that George Washington would have run out of town - as she would entangle us in the world.

She seems to have forgotten who it is that appointed her to the Supreme Court.

She may have early senility.

She is a hack! There is no place for international law in any US courtroom with exception of international treaties, signed by the POTUS and ratified by the Congress. Dispicable.

O'Connor doesn't even live here. The moment session for the USSC is out, she's on the first private jet to Europe. She doesn't come back until the day session is scheduled to restart.

She's enamoured with Brussels.

It must be taboo for security reasons for the press to report on the lifestyles of the justices. Clarence Thomas seems to be the only exception. An exceptional man by all accounts, which by the way seem to try to smear him but actually IMHO show him to be a family man of courage and reason if you don't just listen to the inflamatory soundbites.

This woman is demented, and should have no place on our highest court.

It's justices like O'Conner who have perverted our culture, and overridden the judiciary's constitutional authority. She seems to have forgotten that government is the servant of the American people not their master.

By O'Conner's own words we can expect Socialist, European, dogma to be written into our laws. If our Congressmen had any spine at all they'd take her to task for such an outrage.

O'Connor Extols Role of International Law

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=512&ncid=703&e=10&u=/ap/20041027/ap_on_go_co/scotus_o_connor

By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Justice Sandra Day O'Connor (news - web sites) extolled Wednesday the growing role of international law in U.S. courts, saying judges would be negligent if they disregarded its importance in a post-Sept. 11 world of heightened tensions.

In a 15-minute speech at Georgetown law school, O'Connor made no mention of the health of Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, 80, who was hospitalized this week for thyroid cancer and is expected to return to work Monday. There also was no additional details from a court spokeswoman on his condition Wednesday.

O'Connor said the Supreme Court is increasingly taking cases that demand a better understanding of foreign legal systems. A recent example was last term's terror cases involving the U.S. detention of foreign-born detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, she said.

"International law is no longer a specialty. ...It is vital if judges are to faithfully discharge their duties," O'Connor told attendees at a ceremony dedicating Georgetown's new international law center.

"Since Sept. 11, 2001, we're reminded some nations don't have the rule of law or (know) that it's the key to liberty," she said.

Later this term, the Supreme Court will decide the constitutionality of executing juvenile killers. The case has attracted wide interest overseas, with many foreign nations filing briefs pointing to international human rights norms as a justification for outlawing the practice.

O'Connor, who is expected to be a pivotal vote, didn't mention the case but said recognizing international law could foster more civilized societies in the United States and abroad. "International law is a help in our search for a more peaceful world," she said.

The 74-year-old who battled a 1988 bout with breast cancer also did not discuss any potential retirements by her colleagues, a topic of much discussion after the surprise announcement Monday of Rehnquist's hospitalization.

Instead, O'Connor said she looked forward to working with many Georgetown students and faculty who might eventually become Supreme Court clerks or argue cases before the justices.

"I look forward to many contacts with you in the years ahead. You will be very good neighbors indeed," she said.
