This is a message to call all Conservatives and Libertarians to vote for George W. Bush on 2-NOV-2004.
An Open Letter to Libertarians " Note to readers: This is a "guest editorial" -- the first time I've published such a thing here. I received this message today, forwarded to me by a mutual friend.
I post it here because the Presidential election next week is of pivotal importance to the future of our nation, and in many "battleground states," the outcome of the vote is likely to be very close.
At a time when every vote counts, however, some individuals who profess allegiance to the principles of private property, limited government, free markets and strong national defense are planning to vote against President Bush. They intend either not to vote at all, to cast a protest vote for the Libertarian candidate or even to vote for John Kerry -- who is committed to the antitheses of each of those principles.
Measured against the moral principles of a laissez-faire capitalist social system, President Bush's record falls very short. But in contrast to Kerry's record and proposals, it isn't even a contest. Kerry would be an absolute disaster to liberty at home, and to our national security.
Professor Hospers, addressing libertarians and others who hold our nation's founding principles dear, makes a compelling case for re-electing President Bush and defeating Kerry. His words should be heeded by everyone who loves freedom." --Robert James Bidinotto

What's the over/under on the first FReeper with a hard-on for government showing up and busting on libertarians, even though the vast majority of us are voting unapologetically for Bush?

If you see this as busting on Libertarians, you have mis-read it. Sorry for your problem.
I am a Libertarian FOR BUSH because I cannot see doing what I did in 1992 when I threw away my vote by voting for Ross Perot and enabling William Jefferson Clinton to make a mockery of the Presidency.
Meanwhile, I have no idea what you are talking about concerning the "over/under" or the "hard-on for government" You obviously are referring to a personal problem and I hope you can find medical attention to correct it.
Cheers!

If you see this as busting on Libertarians, you have mis-read it. Sorry for your problem.I'm sorry, you've misunderstood my post. I myself am a small-l libertarian supporting Bush and I think that this is a great article. What I was referring to was the small contingent of FReepers who make a point to show up on any thread regarding libertarianism and make assinine comments.
These are the same FReepers who support the federal War on Drugs, welfare, and gun control, and who mask their liberalism behind a "law and order" facade.
Trust me, they'll be here soon.

I'm with you on this one. For the first time in my life this election, I will be pulling the lever for a Republican for president.
True, Libertarians have a lot of issues with President Bush, but a Kerry presidency would be an unmitigated disaster. We are at war with an enemy committed to our total destruction; Kerry sold us out to a similar enemy 34 years ago, and he seems intent on doing it again. He is simply wrong on every issue.
I urge all small-l and large-L libertarians to help reelect President Bush, then persuade him to our way of thinking during his next term.

I hope you don't live in a battleground state. So you're a "card carrying" Libertarian. They issue cards now huh? Is that so they can remember what they are?

For one I live in a state thats already wrapped up (Massachusetts) and the fear of "wasting my vote" doesn't register with me. If all libertarians thought this way we would have never gotten the results we have achieved.

Made it all the way to #4, so the number was 2. Predictable.

You guys had your moment in the sun with Carla Howell when she ran against Teddy boy. I'll admit that that was the LP's finest hour, when she outpolled the GOP challenger. But Badnarak is a joke who won't get over 250,000 votes. Libertarians should just cut their losses and unite with the GOP to defeat the Dems.
