SENIORS POUND ‘POLITICAL FEAR MONGERS’ WITH NATIONWIDE TV & RADIO ADS

FAIRFAX, VA – National TV and radio ads currently running in over 20 states across the country are strongly hitting politicians who use scare tactics on Social Security and Medicare to shamelessly try and garner votes. The ad campaign is sponsored by USA Next-United Seniors Association (USA), one of the country’s largest grassroots organizations, with over 1.5 million members nationwide. The ads feature “America’s Grandfather,” Art Linkletter, and send the message that America’s seniors have had enough of the dishonest manipulation of their votes.

“Politicians who use senior scare tactics on Social Security and Medicare deserve the strongest public rebuke,” said Charlie Jarvis, Chairman and Chief Executive, USA Next-United Seniors. “This despicable political tactic is the lowest form of the ‘Politics of Invented Fear’ and seniors are not taking it any more.”

Partial radio ad transcipt below:

VOICE 1 (ART LINKLETTER): Hello there, I'm Art Linkletter with a special election message. You know politicians say the darndest things. Each time our elections roll around we see politicians frighten senior voters with scare tactics about Social Security and Medicare. Don't let dishonest politicians manipulate your vote. Your vote is important to the future of our great country. We need to continue our American legacy- freedom, opportunity, national security, and a strong economy. VOICE 2 (ANNOUNCER): Politicians who accuse their opponent of being against seniors are just trying to scare you. They want to frighten older voters about Social Security and Medicare. When you hear these ads, call the candidate and tell them you don’t trust politicians who scare seniors. Call your friends and family to do the same. Let’s say NO to politicians who scare seniors.

“People over 60 have the highest voting rate,” said Jarvis. “Our goal is to make sure seniors nationwide have the facts when they enter the voting booth. USA has a 1.5 million-plus citizen network across the country, including 115,000 households in Florida, 87,000 in Pennsylvania, 73,000 in Ohio, and 41,000 in Wisconsin, just to name a few. We believe seniors can make the difference on Election Day.”

USA’s television ads are running in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Montana, and Nebraska.

USA’s radio ads are being broadcast in a large number of states with significant senior populations including Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

I remember Art well. Saw him not too long ago on Larry King and he's still a class act with a find sense of humor. They don't make them like that anymore...at least not in my universe.

It's about time somebody addresses this shameless scare tactic.

115,000 households in Florida, 87,000 in Pennsylvania, 73,000 in Ohio, and 41,000 in Wisconsin

About 1.5% to 2% of the voting block for each state.

How cool is THAT! About damned time. Even my mother, 82 years old and very intelligent, gets a little worried over sKerry scare tactics at times. I have to constantly calm her down on this topic due to the Dems' demagoguery. Shameless rat-b*stards...

I've heard the ad a few times. It's awesome.

There needs to be one directed at young people too.

What really annoys me is that I've been seeing a lot of Dems on TV lately tossing off lines like:

"The Bush campaign is all based on scaring people..."
"The Bush campaign has been relentlessly negative ..."
"Bush's mud-slinging and fear-mongering are going to bring on a backlash ..."

It kills me that the KERRY people make these charges, and the charges are not answered.

Brilliant idea, we desperately need Linkletter's message in Fla. There has never been a nat. election for anyone in S. Fla. that "Socha Security" has not been demagogued to death by the rats. It's sort of a way of life for them. But what kills them is the checks keep coming. Maybe by now the Seniors "get" it.

We are lucky here in S.Fla we also have former N.Y. mayor and "Democrat" Ed Koch working for Bush in S. Fla. among the elderly Jewish community. He is convinced Bush will be better than Kerry on "the" issue of the camping, Iraq/terrorism. If you know S.Fla. Jewish voters you realize Israel is always an issue. Koch sees Bush as a stronger allie to Israel than f'ing. He said so on Hannity yesterday.

I just registered my lovely Demonrat retired-UAW member, in-laws to this group's free newsletters. I sure hope they enjoy it. You should sign up a few retirees you know too.
As a counter to their AARP crap they worship.
Perhaps seeing Art on the Front page will get their
attention.

I heard this ad on my way home from work yesterday - I thought it was great! I hope it drives the message home to people who might be frightened. I liked that it didn't name anyone in particular, just gave them ways to combat the scare tactics.

"You know politicians say the darndest things."

I don't believe I'd phrase it quite that way.

Hope these ads are very effective.
