HUNTSVILLE -- A man convicted in a 1992 murder case in which the troubled Houston police crime lab allegedly mishandled evidence was executed Tuesday evening despite last-minute legal battles and pleas from relatives of the murder victim that his life be spared.
U.S. District Judge Nancy Atlas had blocked Dominique Green's execution after his attorneys argued that boxes of improperly stored and catalogued evidence, kept by the crime lad and recently discovered, could contain information relevant to the case.
The state attorney general's office objected to the reprieve, which was then lifted by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to grant a last-minute stay.
"There was a lot of people that got me to this point and I can't thank them all," Green said in a barely audible voice. "I am not angry but I am disappointed that I was denied justice. But I am happy that I was afforded you all as family and friends. I love you all. ... Please keep my memory alive."

"There was a lot of people that got me to this point and I can't thank them all," Green said in a barely audible voice. If he wanted to thank the man truly responsible for getting him to that point (lethal injection), all he had to do was look in a mirror.
Good riddance.

He might have voted absentee.
...and now he's eligible to vote in Chicago. He could count as at least two sKerry votes.

Golly, I'd like to see a little more political correctness. Instead of "executed," can't we say, "processed to his final reward?" It demonstrates the same kind of advanced sensitivity that using "undocumented" instead of "wetback" does. I'm sure all those left wing wacko anti-death penalty, well, wackos would approve.

Green and his sidekicks rode around committing 9 armed robberies the night he murdered a man in a parking lot. He's been drawing air 12 years too long.

... "processed to his final reward?"I think the British can help us here. They simply say, "he was seen off" -- as though you were waving goodbye to him as he departed on his cruise of the south sea islands.

The boxes of evidence under dispute had only recently surfaced. I wonder if now that he's dead, they'll just destroy them.
