KERRY-Saturation Advertising in Massachusets! Why????
Vanity | 10-26-04 | Gorzaloon

Posted on 10/26/2004 4:50:16 AM PDT by Gorzaloon

Only my third vanity ever.

Help me understand this: Driving to work this morning, I was subjected to a Kerry Ad on WBZ every five minutes, the the extant that I gave up and shut off the radio.

WHY is a Massachusetts "Favorite Son" candidate spending all this money on his OWN STATE???

WBZ is owned by the Boston Globe, which is owned by the NYT. They are running the ads free. The ads are of the Attack Variety, e.g flu shots, etc. Are they saying Kerry is a lost cause, but are merely attempting as much damage to W's second term as they can?

These media buys otherwise make no sense at all.

New Hampshire gets much of its media from the Boston market.

New Hampshire and Maine are in play. You are just getting the blow back. If you want to influence the Donk refugees in Southern NH, you advertise in Boston.

They are running the ads free.

Well, if the ads are free, then why not run 'em? I would.

I'm just guessing, but are the same TV ad markets also covering New Hampshire? Maybe the only way to blast ads into NH is to hit the MA market. Just a thought. NH is very close and would be a pickup for Kerry.

How do you know the ads are free? If the ads are free I would think equal time laws would force them to put Bush ads on for free as well. Do you know this for a fact or are you somehow surmising it?

Sorry for the bad writing. Originally I had a list of possibilities as speculation, then trimmed the post a lot, and missed that structure. I do NOT know such a thing.

But given BZ/Globe/NYT, it would not be at all surprising if they were at KMart prices.

"They are running the ads free."

If the ads are running for free, then he isn't spending any money on them. What does he have to lose? Or did I misunderstand your post?

Well, wait a minute.

If these are real campaign ads by run either a 527, the DNC, or a Kerry ad (not a documentary or news story is my point)
and they are free, then the equal time rule applies, right?

'Cause the poster who started this thread said so - I was just quoting that person - but now he/she has retracted that claim, so the point is moot anyway . . .

WBZ, 1030 AM, is a clear channel station (not to be confused with Clear Channel Communications) and can be heard in the entire eastern US once the sun goes down.

actually, the prices for political ads are set by law. they must be the lowest price the station charges for rop (run of paper, meaning not targeted to particular time slots) advertisements. for everyone.
