Bush Beats Kerry in IQ Head-to-Head (not surprisingly)

IQ Test: Bush outshines Kerry CHIDANAND RAJGHATTA

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ MONDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2004 04:16:38 PM ] Washington: President Bush is not a bozo; in fact, he may be a near-brainiac.

An American researcher has challenged popular belief and water cooler jokes about Bush's cerebral limitations by arguing - on the basis of available records - that he is not only smart but has a higher IQ than his rival John Kerry.

Based on various academic and military school records including his SAT score (1206), conservative columnist Steve Sailer has calculated that Bush's IQ is between 125 and 130.

That would put him in the "very superior intelligence" category and in the 95th percentile, which means only one out of 20 people would score higher.

In comparison, similar (but not same) records and tests suggest John Kerry's IQ is only around 120, says Sailer in a commentary on the conservative blog www.vdare.com.

Sailer looked at school records and tests both men took when there were enrolling into the US military at age 22 and extrapolated the results to arrive his conclusion.

I am a hobbist with this. I also use to be a headhunter and had to determine quickly how smart the person was I was dealing with. Brains work differently. Also the SAT has been dumbed down over the last 30 to 40 years.

My guess is that Bush has an IQ around 140.

John

PS. It is said that in other to practice law or medical you have to have an IQ greater than 130.

A 1984/5 Johns Hopkins study said the average M.D. I.Q. was 105 and it would be statistically unnerving to see the low score even if 130 was the high.

Also, a friend of mine is practicing law at 115 and she's doing okay. A couple other lawyer friends belong to Intertel, the club that limits to top 1% (a/o Mensa at 2%), and they're doing better.

No he doesn't use big words. But at the same time he is not an eloquent speaker.

He speaks from the heart, he makes mistakes in his speaches. he mispronounces things.

It's these things that the media picks on, and the liberals use to foster the image of Bush as a idiot.

Of course, liberals tend to forget little things like most people make mistakes when they speak in public, and mispronounce words that they do not use on a daily basis.

How do the claims that Bush is stupid gain traction?

As several other posters have pointed out it's his Texas drawl and unfortunate lack of glibness. Sadly, American and European elitists equate certain speech mannerisms with laziness and low IQ. There's absolutely no correlation.

Yet if you believe PBS, anyone with an English accent, phony or not, is automatically smarter than Einstein, Plato and Solomon rolled into one. That goes for phony Hahvahd, Yale and Boston Brahmin accents too.

What was the score range 35 years ago? I'm not sure I took an SAT as I dropped out in early Nov in my senior year to enlist.

I agree, genius can stall decisions as they try and micro-manage everything.

May I also add a lot of good common sense is as big a plus as above average intelligence.
There are plenty of intelligent liberals with the common sense of a rock. The term educated fools might be the best term for them.

My son is extremely intelligent and so far it seems to be a reason for him to think he does not have to work. If any homework takes him more than 5 minutes he starts getting upset. A friend was complaining about his learning disabled son who works on his homework until 11 o clock at night but does not get much done. I told him his son had learned something very valuable, a work ethic. It will serve him well in life.

Hi,

130 is to do a good job at it. I think 105 is too low and yes unnerving.

John

Part of the study cited stamina as criteria, which is pretty apparent. There was also and issue with SATs not jiving with IQ tests, implicating the ability to learn and repeat, as opposed to high IQ which is, briefly, the abiltiy to think clearly. I've seen first hand the parrots vs the brainiacs in both industries, med & law.

In the bible it talks about faith with out works is dead. Well, intelligence without wisdom is dead too.
I like Bush's wisdom. John
