"Surviving Christmas" did barely better than Affleck's notorious 2003 bomb "Gigli," which had a $3.8 million opening weekend.
The movie stars Affleck as a lonely guy who hires a pretend family for the holidays. Critics trashed the movie, whose release was delayed a year to avoid bumping up against Affleck's thriller "Paycheck" during the 2003 holiday season.
Executives at DreamWorks, which released "Surviving Christmas," were unavailable for comment Sunday, a spokeswoman said.

Just from the trailers, this film is disturbing and mean spirited. A bomb.

I saw the trailer for this one and you could tell it was going to be awful. Looks like they tried to be like Christmas Vacation but the comedy timing looked terrible with all of the scenes. This guys career as a Hollywood actor could be over very soon.

Wonder if there is any correlation with Ben being a big lib while Buffy is a sorta coservative.

Maybe has-Ben can ask F'n for a Cabinet position. I hear that there is a Louis XV cabinet in one of the mansions that needs polishing.

It appears as if Affleck is on the same career path that Kevin Costner was on after he made Dances with Wolves.
He was a huge star for about a year or two afterwards, then his career was somewhat mediocre for the next 10 years (Waterworld, Wyatt Earp, The Postman) until he redeemed himself with Open Range in 2003.
Just my opinion, of course.

I couldn't care less about Affleck, but I feel bad for Christina Applegate (one of his co-stars).
She's still my dream girl!

Also, Team America is in 4th place. I saw it Friday. It's not for everybody but I liked it.
And I think it pretty much destroyed Matt Damon's career.

From Ben Affleck's journal:
Note to self - spend less time campaigning for Kerry and more time considering choice of movie scripts. A few more like that and I'll be the next Ed Begley Jr.

I love SMG so I went to see this, though normally I don't much like the genre. (Though I also like Japanese films). I was unimpressed. SMG did OK but her talents were not really used for much. There are scads of single Buffy episodes with greater depth and artistry in every respect. I won't spoil anything by saying more, for those who will see it regardless.

I watched the Japanese version of "Grudge" 2 years ago and it sucked. The ending simply made me go Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh? This crappy movie rode on the coattails of "The Ring" and the same director was used (Shimizu). Someone should have told him he could have made his movie more interesting.

Ben Affleck's career is doing just fine. He is working as much as he wants to. In he did make a number of bombs, but he also made Paycheck and DareDevil. Both made money.
He has reprised his role of Matt Murdock in the upcoming "Electra" and seems to work as much as he wants to. Like it or not, he is still huge box office.
