it's about 350 tons of explosives looted from some arms dump in Iraq. It's going to blame the Administration for leaving it "unprotected" in the early days after the war.
To: SE Mom
Well if something bad does happen, some people talking about an "October surprise" are going to have some explaining to do.
To: spacejunkie
Bad for Bush? Yeah, but considering what's been tossed against the wall in this election, this is chicken feed.

Storyline:
There is not now, nor has there ever, nor shall there ever be absent the re-selection by intimidation of black voters and by excessive litigation of George W. Bush the Failure to the Presidency for four more years, any connection between terrorists and explosives outside the fantastical imagination of certain certifiably idiotic and deranged right-wing conservatives ideologues, and any historical imagery to the contrary merely constitutes a cruel figment of the imagination of such said idiotic ideologues perpetuated on the American people through intimidation and fear and through media outlets dedicated to the hate-mongering that is the attitude of President Bush, according to unimpeachable intelligence sources used by the upstanding Presidential campaign of the distinguished junior Senator from the Great Commonwealth of Massachusetts, John F. Kerry, and any statement to the contrary effectively constitutes a highly illegal and most dangerous form of defamation of the such said Senator and all people of good will, for it is now hereby certified and is so decreed, so help us Kerry!

pretty clear. In the early days, they stole this stuff and we didn't want it out. And they are blowing things up with it. Does this stuff count as WMD?

This is such a hatchet job against Bush. Just like the Casper Weinberger non-story that was drudged up in the days before the '92 election, this is is old news that is being trumpeted as front page just to harm Bush. Despicable.

Mmmm.... So someone looted explosives along with a lot of weapons in the mayhem that followed the fall of Saddams regime. Isn't this old news? If this was about someone looting WMD's it would be more interesting.

I posted this a little while ago and the thread was pulled. I don't know why.

It's the NYT's Director of Circulation calling Drudge in order to sell Monday's newspaper.

NYT's?
Eh. Let 'em give it their best. :-D
To: July 4th
Yes, this is bad for Bush. This combined with the newly found "prison abuse diary" will take away some precious votes.

Doesn't "it" seem as though we're all in suspended animation, somehow? Been waiting for the other shoe to drop for over a year... I couldn't have said it better myself, that is exactly how I feel. I am always pessimistic whenever NYT does any story, they hate Bush. Sigh, I will try and get some sleep and not listen to Drudge. Whenever I listen to him I am up until 2 am.

"On the contrary, the NYT is going to use it as evidence of the Bush Administration's mishandling of the war."
I'm afraid you're correct on this one. They will spin it to bash GW.
This is NOT the Monday morning Kerry story. The blogs are now saying that it will run on page one of the WAPO. If it's there, however, I can't imagine it hurting Kerry...unless the WAPO staff have lost their kneepads.

Folks, the sky is not falling. We should step back before we believe that we are doomed by some story in the NYT.
