The Kerry-Edwards campaign came out swinging Wednesday against President George W. Bush and National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, who has traveled to battleground states to campaign for President Bush.
Sen. John Edwards, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's running mate, said Dr. Rice "shouldn't take the time to go on a campaign trip for George Bush" at a time when "the violence in Iraq is spinning out of control, Osama bin Laden remains at large, and North Korea and Iran have increased their nuclear capabilities."
"For all its fear mongering on the war on terror, this White House has a greater commitment to its political security than to our national security," Edward said in a statement.
"George Bush will go to any length to cling to power, even if it means diverting his National Security Adviser from doing her job. It's time for a fresh start with a White House whose priority will be to focus on doing everything to make our country safer - period," he added.
Meanwhile, five widows of Sept. 11 victims also criticized Rice, saying "her time would be far better spent tracking down Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda terrorists - the people who killed our husbands - and pushing for full adoption of the 9-11 commission recommendations."
The widows were identified as Kristen Breitweiser, Patty Casazza, Monica Gabrielle, Mindy Kleinberh, and Lorie Van Auken. They said they were "disturbed" that Rice is "giving speeches and press interviews in battleground states."
The Kerry campaign also released a statement from a veteran who fought in the Iraq War who criticized Rice.
"As an Iraq veteran, I know something about how this president and his advisors mix his politics and protecting the nation. ... America's national security advisor shouldn't be so focused on partisan politics, especially given the troubling situation in Iraq and the ground we've lost in the war on terror," said Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran Paul Friedman.
Friedman said he was an operations specialist 2\super nd\nosupersub Class stationed aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln on May 1, 2003 when President Bush landed on the ship's flight deck and announced "mission accomplished."
"The mission, as it turns out, was far from accomplished, as evidenced by the monthly increases in American and Coalition soldier deaths in Iraq. The fact is painfully clear that we went to war on a whim and without a plan. Today, terrorists and their sympathizers flood through Iraq's unsecured borders daily," Friedman said.
"What was the mission, Dr. Rice? Where is your plan for my friends who are still serving out this fight in Iraq? Please stop the political stump speeches and get back to doing the national security job you were appointed by President Bush to do," he concluded.

I wonder how many National Security meetings these two goofballs have attended this year.
This coming from the men not doing the jobs they were elected to do..............representing the people of their repsectives states?
How many Senate votes have either made since announcing running for higher office????????
It would be funny...........if it were so disgusting.
Trap set.. Target walks right in on cue.
Make an issue out of Condi Rice you rat scum,.. I dare you.
here we go again, Kerry has a vet speaking against the Gov. during a war, repeat repeat
They just keep lowering the bar on hypocrisy.
Translation: "We are very, very worried that George Bush will do much better with African-Americans than he did in 2000."
which he will
Blah Blah Blah BaBlah Ba BaBlah
Ashes! All is ashes!!
Amen Hallelujah Holy Sh*t where's the tylenol!
Why doesn't Downstairs John tell Upstairs John to sign Form 180, if he wants to look like he's looking out for the interests of the public?
dear freepers,
i am tired looking at the news from the left and join fellow freepers daily in prayer for our president and troops.
if you believe in prayer please join us.
GODSPEED!
Obviously....
Our national security advisor believes Kerry is a threat to our nation. Why else would she speak?
It's inappropriate for Rice to be doing this while on the job. It's perfectly appropriate for ex NSA's to stump for the President, but not Rice.
We have reports of terrorists trying to disrupt the elections. Condi Rice needs to be in Washington analyzing intelligence, and keeping us safe.
There he goes again, a devil white man attacking a proud black woman. Attacking the most powerful Black American woman in US history.
What a dumbass. It's not like he intends on having anyone other than his pasty-ass conflicted northeasterner self in appointed in his probable cabinet except in the "token" slots Democrats dump those of a different shade in order to make them feel cute and cuddly.
God forbid the likes of John Kerry would appoint a Negro as National Security, SecState, or the like. It would be poor cricket to his fellows.
I am getting soooo sick of the whining and crying coming out of the Kerry camp. What a bunch of girlymen.
And Kerry's last Senate vote was what date? (crickets chirping)
