Bush seizes momentum in campaign's home stretch
October 24, 2004
BY WILLIAM O'ROURKE
For nervous Democrats, observing the presidential campaign at this point is akin to watching an imminent train wreck. The Bush war-president express is barreling full steam ahead and the Kerry Hope-Is-On-The-Way bus is speeding along, trying to cross the tracks unscathed. In 2000, Al Gore's bus managed to get across without being hit, but then it stopped and backed up, so Bush & Co. could smash it to smithereens.
This time Bush's train is fueled by its slight lead in the polls and its boilers are being stoked with trumped-up Mary Cheney insults, Swift Boat and Sinclair traitor charges, alleged Iraq war wimpiness, and homeland security fears. Kerry is stomping on the gas pedal with a lead foot, attempting to drive home the obvious: Bush's botched Iraq adventure -- not just his original big stick policy, but his incompetence in wielding it; his economic follies and job losses; Bush's desire to privatize Social Security, and his neglectful handling of the simplest things, such as guaranteeing sufficient flu vaccine for the nation.
But this late in the campaign most of the electorate is transfixed, just standing back awaiting the outcome: a collision or its absence. The issues tossed up don't even have enough time to float back to the ground.

A Democrat rag-and a poor one at that. They are just getting desperate because their Soros-picked-Nancy-boy and his bitch-dog wife are failing...
Welcome to Free Republic.
And thanks for the positive thread. There's so much gloom and doom being posted these days.
No sign of it yet.
Sounds to me as though Mr. O'Rourke already borders on hysteria. Are friends and family mounting a suicide watch for the time when Kerry concedes, say about 11 AM on Nov. 2?
From: Chicago Sun-Times. Same article, different fish wrap.

read this again. this is not positive its an attempt at spin. it's saying what the heck is wrong with you democrat voters, W is in the lead and look what he has done.
Of course we know it to be not true. But do you see the slam on W.
I hope the "supposed" Washington Times article, will leave Kerry and Co. on their heels Monday and Tuesday, then perhaps a bomb about Kerry's discharge on Thursday to lay them out flat. Anything that keeps them off balance is good news
Don't know about Gallup.
I was at the Rally in Lakeland,FL yesterday.
Over 13,000 people. I was 15ft from the President. Marine One landed and took off less than 50 yards away. You can FEEL the pulse of the Bush/Cheney campaign. This is all about GET OUT THE VOTE - Voter Turnout. And from what I saw yesterday the GOP has got the ball rolling.
BUSH WILL CARRY FLORIDA ! !
Well, to me it's positive to see their sheer desperation.
it's positive to see their sheer desperation
I agree it is desperation on their part. It is also aggravating that a writer could make some of the far fetched claims they do against our President.
W will win in 04. Good luck to you.
is fine with the author. There's evidently a lot of misogyny in the Democratic party. Someone should unearth some interesting details about Mr. O'Rourke for "modest use" in a public forum. Anything in the public domain is fine.
Theresa doesn't have to release her tax records nor Kerry his divorce records. Cheney's daughter's sexuality is up for grabs, though.
Hopefully SOROS will go bankrupted
Did you read the same article that I did? It's a Bush hit piece from a person who just signed up today and a duplicate at that.
See my post #13.
You can look at that way but I don't see anything positive about someone signing up today to post an obvious slam at GWB. Especially since it's the third appearance of the same article from the "Sun Times" today.
The only thing "positive" about it is the misleading title.
Please resume taking your meds.
And report me to the Mod all you want.
