~ Canteen Artist Spotlight ~ Pink Anderson |
A good-natured finger-picking guitarist, Anderson played for about 30 years as part of a medicine show. He did make a couple of sides for Columbia in the late '20s with Simmie Dooley, but otherwise didn't record until a 1950 session, the results of which were issued on a Riverside LP that also included tracks by Gary Davis. Anderson went on to make some albums on his own after the blues revival commenced in the early '60s, establishing him as a minor but worthy exponent of the Pidemont school, versed in blues, ragtime, and folk songs. Anderson also became an unusual footnote in rock history when Syd Barrett, a young man in Cambridge, England, combined Pink's first name with the first name of another obscure bluesman (Floyd Council) to name his rock group, Pink Floyd, in the mid-'60s.

The family line is that Piper loves the camera, and the camera loves her.
What I wish I could do is get a video of her dancing. My camera does that, but I never have it when she cuts loose.
Something tells me we're going to have to catch when she's not looking...

"Ignore John Kerry's Politics of FEAR and Division: Here's the Issues!!" by Steven T. Voigt
"Commentators are scratching their heads, but it should not be a mystery why Kerry made a comment about Vice-President Cheneys daughter in the recent debate. With nothing substantive to talk about, Kerry and his camp intend to divide America - to pit us against one another based on race, gender, and anything else they can think of. Kerrys comment about Cheneys daughter is part of this calculated strategy.
Indeed, we have recently seen blatant examples of this tactic. For example, Kerry has threatened that President Bush will institute a draft. He has also argued that Bush will take away social security from the elderly. He has even alleged that the GOP is conspiring to keep minorities out of the voting booth.
Playing politics with fear and division is wrong. Sadly, though, this is where we find ourselves, thanks to the radical and depressing rhetoric of the far-left and John Kerry. I can only hope that after this election, we will all find a way to pull together and put the past few months of venom behind us.
This will be my final political commentary before the election, so I thought it would be appropriate to rise above the scare tactics and set forth the issues. This November, I encourage everyone to vote and to vote Republican.
I endorse President Bush, and I hope to see him lead this great nation for four more years."
Huzzah! HUZZAH!! HUZZAH!!!

Greetings, Canteeners, Troops,
and All the Ships at Sea!
And it's JukeBox Duty for the Canteen this weekend!
Sarge is up late into the wee hours, taking care of The Boy's allergies and coughing - he rests, but Missus doesn't...
Well, on Friday afternoon, Sarge got to do his greatest duty - he voted. Rolled into the polling place in Louisville just before closing, and had one good chuckle. The dear sweet old lady who was filling out voter forms had that drone voice going: "Will you be out of the county on Election Day?" "Will you be out of the county on Election Day?" Poor old girl must've been saying that for hours, until Sarge walks up in full uniform:
"Will you be out of the cou-AAAH, I guess you will!" Everyone got a good laugh.
Flashed my military ID, told them where I'd be on Nov. 2nd, voted, and left - all without incident.
Looking forward to GI'ing the house, packing for the trip, bold and daring exploits on the field of honor, and a good amount of FReeping this weekend.
Sarge will be in and out of the area all day, so Let's Have Fun!
SARGE
DISCLAIMER: If you want to be on/off Sarge's Canteen Roll Call, FReepmail for details.
