Teens who predicted President Bush's narrow victory in 2000 have reelected him, according to a Clearasil nationwide mock poll conducted by Channel One News.
Bush received 55 percent of the vote to Senator John Kerry's 40 percent, with 5 percent going to third-party candidates.
The acne medication, advertised by Interpublic Group's McCann Erickson, New York, with planning and buying performed by Medicom, sponsored the poll. The in-school TV network, which broadcasts from Los Angeles to more than 8 million students nationwide, had 1.4 million teens return online ballots Monday and Tuesday. The ballots were numbered to prevent stuffing.
"Clearasil has been been an advertiser with us almost since the station's inception, probably 25 of 38 weeks a year," said Kent Haehl, Channel One's president of advertising. "We took them into a complete marketing program that includes exposure though in-school signage and logo representation on every piece of collateral material."
Haehl said the mock election is the station's way of complementing youth voting drives "by raising awareness of their social responsibility and civic duty, and to get teens to engage in the process earlier and see the impact of their votes."
Clearasil, owned by Procter & Gamble since 2000, spent $16 million on ads in 2003 and $4 million through August 2004, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

The never-ending list of companies that have polls astounds me. Seven eleven has a coffee poll in which polling is done upon paying for the cup of joe.
I heard somewhere that Bush had a slight edge.
I will assume 55% of girls would rather kiss Bush and 40% would kiss Lurch?

I hope they came to their conclusions by listening to who their parents were going to vote for!
I guess it's true that you get wiser with age. The Nickalodeon poll went for Kerry.

I had some zits while young and didn't pay attention to them. I quit candy and ice cream and stopped being a fat, lazy, teenage slob and they all disappeared. Certainly not a trace left after basic training for 8 weeks in Texas heat.
The choice is clear.
People keep claiming the Weekly Reader poll shows Bush winning (which I don't doubt) but these articles say it won't be released until next week. Check out the kid in the large article that says "It was easier than writing it out and you could just push the button and it would go. If we kids can do it then, I'm pretty sure that the older people may do it."

Tarpon Springs, Florida - Kristy Legoas, age 9, and her fourth-grade classmates at Brooker Creek Elementary School are voting for the President of the United States, sort of.
KRISTY LEGOAS, 4TH GRADE STUDENT:
“Even though we won't be able to actually vote, later on we will be able to vote, and this will help us."
It's a mock election, but Kristy and her classmates are using the same touch-screen voting machines their parents are using. Kristy voted for John Kerry. It took her less than two minutes.
LEGOAS:
"It was easier than writing it out and you could just push the button and it would go. If we kids can do it then, I'm pretty sure that the older people may do it."
Fourth-grader Jordan Bell voted for George Bush.
JORDAN BELL, 4TH GRADE STUDENT:
“He's a Republican, and I'm a Republican. What did you think of the machines? Oh they're kind of cool."
Secretary of State Glenda Hood watched the school's mock election.
GLENDA HOOD, SECRETARY OF STATE:
“What it tells me is that when they become voting age, they're going to be enthusiastic voters, they're going to be well-educated, they're going to be well informed and that's what we want with all voters."
Brooker Creek Elementary voted for George W. Bush to be their President with 540 votes. John Kerry had 147 votes.
Brooker Creek's numbers will be added to the Weekly Reader's national student poll. The Weekly Reader is a national publication that helps children learn to read and write.
The publication says its student poll has correctly picked every presidential election since 1956. The Weekly Reader's results will be out Monday.

Good grief. You are right. The other poll was the Scholastic Book Services poll. I just assumed it was the same as the Weekly Reader poll. Bummer. But I'm glad to see the Weekly Reader poll isn't an internet poll like the Nickelodean Poll that made headlines recently. It won't skewed by DU types.
There could be a coupla big zits in that poll..
The Nickelodeon poll was an online poll with no screening whatsoever, and it was skewed by adults. This poll had numbered ballots to prevent cheating and ballot box stuffing so it should be much more honest. If it's a reflection of their parents' views, then it could be very good news for Bush. It also once again proves that Democrats don't win national elections unless they can cheat.
