Bomb Discovered on Train Tracks? (North Carolina) VANITY-Never verified
Police Source | 10-21-04 | my favorite headache

Posted on 10/21/2004 12:52:33 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

I am not stating this as 100% fact but apparently a bomb was discovered this afternoon on the rail tracks in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I wouldn't post this unless I trusted the source. He is a police officer out of Orlando himself and said in confidence that it was found in a suitcase.

Has anyone heard about this locally and if so..what buildings would be of special target in that region to plant a bomb on the tracks? Is this a transportation issue or do trains run through the city past a major building?

Again...this is fresh info told to me minutes ago and it was told to me only because he got the info himself earlier today.

This is the latest news article I could find about the Winston-Salem Area...

Winston-Salem Police Chase Cow Through City Streets

POSTED: 8:40 am EDT October 21, 2004

Winston-Salem police officers spent several hours Wednesday chasing a cow through the streets and woods of the city.

A cow was reported loose in the area of Reynolds Park Road at about 4 p.m. Forsyth County Animal Control officers and Winston-Salem Rescue Squad were called in to assist in the pursuit.

Officers tried to keep the cow contained until animal control personnel arrived, but the animal escaped into the woods. The owner of the cow wasn't known, reports stated.

So I'll keep my eye to the breaking news, surely someone will investigate. I still think theres somethign to this. There's always something to it... just a matter of finding out what. :) Peace.

Five or six weeks ago some greens place a fake bomb on some tracks near Raleigh-Durham to make a 'point'. I believe they were caught and charged, no word on outcome.

Never heard that expression. But your story is certainly "the bomb." Thanks for the entertainment. BTW, I have a friend in Italy who is a part-time security guard and he told me in confidence about a bomb hidden in a Twinkie in a convenience store near a railroad track in South Dakota. Has anybody else heard about this? I really need to know! This could be hugh! I'm series!

Re: your recent train accident in California.

Local news on the radio, said that the shut down of the gasoline pipeline to Phoenix, may have been caused by that train accident.

They seemed to think that the train damaged it in Calif.

We had a bull get loose in Kansas City about 20 years ago and it decided to take up temporary residency in the courtyard of the Kansas City Star newspaper. About 100 photojournalists and reporters watched as dozens of police corralled the animal while another one shot it dead.

Of course the headline was:

Dozens of Police Standing Around Shooting the Bull

I'd be curious to see the number of train derailments/accidents in the United States since 9/11 and compare that number to the number of train accidents in the same time period (roughly 3 years) prior. There was a derailment in California recently and our S-3 observed that, to him, it seemed as if the number of train mishaps has increased.

If you do a search I believe there are many threads from approximately 1 year ago during a frenzy over derailments, and a few people actually did sit down and run the numbers, and there had been no increase in train derailments since 9-11.

The same is also true of industrial accidents and explosions. Both derailments and industrial accidents are far more likely to make national wires and get posted on FR since 9/11; there hasn't been any actual increase in numbers. Another thing that happens is if there's a major derailment or industrial accident, then people are far more likely to post minor derailments or accidents that they find in local newspapers and the like on FR that occur in the weeks following, creating the illusion of some sort of uptick in numbers.
