Last week in St. Louis Missouri, a racially-charged pamphlet has been the latest attempt made by Democrats to win minority votes in the African-American community.
This is what they used to do to keep us from voting, proclaims the brochure, featuring a photo of a 1960s snapshot of a firefighter hosing a colored person.
Now Attorney General John Ashcroft is trying to prevent African Americans from voting at all. Dont let them do it again."
Missouri Democratic spokeswoman Sarah Howard insists she absolutely will not pull the flier.
This is an outrage. This year the attempts made by both parties to win votes have been nothing but a horrible election process for both parties. This flier is dirty politics at its best.
This is an attempt to get African American voters to vote for Sen. John Kerry by lying to them. They are showing voters how they were intimidated not to vote in the 1960s and telling them that the Republicans dont want them to participate in this years elction process. The fliers are simply misleading and have no basis in fact.
The local mayor simply advises voters, Not to be intimidated.
Trueblackman...have you seen this flier? As an African American, I was wondering your thoughts.
ping
When you have no issues that Americans support then you have to pull this type of crap. Democrats simply want the votes of any group they can scare.
I've changed my mind. There is something lower than whale poop.
Uh, how exactly is FORMER MISSOURI GOVERNOR Ashcroft trying to keep black people from voting 'at all?'
Turn this around on them. Take that flier, make a commercial, and say 'The Democrats are trying to scare you. The Republican Party WANTS black people to vote, and it wants them to vote Republican-- the party that will offer them more than just fear.'
I'm almost surprised them Dems would want a racist spokeswoman talking to the press.
Well said.
I would point out that the guy holding the hose in the picture is most likely a segregationist democrat from those days.
Election nonsense
Will someone PLEASE tell me when and where intimidation and prevention of voting by LEGAL REGISTERED VOTERS has taken place in the last 20 years? What is so friggin difficult about registering to vote and taking some form of ID with you to vote and going to the right place to vote? I'm so SICK of this NON-STORY!
Then it would behoove the Missouri Republicans to mass-distribute a nearly-identical flier.
The only change would be the caption under the photo---"This is how the Democrats kept you away from the polls in the 60s. They don't want to hear you now either."
Hello!
I don't know you as well, but I like your posts.
I'll ping YOU to the nonsense as well!
Isn't a printed accusation that cannot be verified considered libel?
Cant we put out a flier that states "the men behind those hoses were DEMOCRATS!"
How about 'Vote for the Party that cares more about the content of person's character than the color of their skin'...
The people will know in their hearts which party this is talking about.
That is an excellent idea.
Where is Registered?
( I have ZERO talent!)
*shaking head and tsking mightily*
I have seen a copy of the flier and it is the typical trick of these Democrat off shot groups that are looking to scare minorities into the voting booth, since at the end of the day fear is the only thing they have.
