Biggest Reason Kerry would dread Red Sox Vs Houston Astros world series

Posted on 10/19/2004 10:01:08 PM PDT by Vortexsg

As we all know Kerry isn't a baseball fan even though I am sure he will want to make us all believe now that the Sox have forced a game 7. Bush on the other hand has been tied to baseball for some time with ownership of the Rangers to just going to the game. Now for the reason Kerry doesn't want these two teams to match up. The world series starts october 23rd and is a seven game series. When you add travel days into the mix the series could last nine total days. Now those who are highly involved wouldn't really mix into politics but those darned independents would and for most of the a good ole baseball game is more fun that listening to politics. So if this were to happen the series would knock kerry out of the limelight and if the game went to seven he would have two days to be top story in the news. With all the positives I feel Bush is about to have that spells disaster for Kerry. On a side note if this were to happen it would be the first time in history teams from candidate states would meet in the series and with all this distraction the un-informed independent is likely to vote for the incumbant being that he/she hasn't heard much from the opposition. So go Sox and go Stros and come one World Series.

If a World Series audience saw Kerry throwing out the first pitch, and having it land 20 feet in front of the plate, he would lose in a landslide.

What does the Sox and the 'Stros being in this series have to do with anything? Wouldn't Kerry have the same issues no matter who is in the WS? Or are you just saying it will be more exciting with those two teams, hence more viewers glued to the WS and less on Kerry?

It would draw more viewers away from liberal media to the series. These two teams were not and spent the whole season being counted out. The Stros but a comeback together in the regular season as well as the playoffs. The sox set a record tonight so more people mainly independence who would find it more enjoyable will watch that and not the news.

The media will try to play up the series as such and may even try to propose stupid bets between the contenders.

Most of the public will just see it as another opportunity to tune out of the current political race and focus on some drama that cannot be spun.

The public did it before when Bill Clinton was undergoing impeachment hearings and they chose to follow a "homerun race" instead.

Bread and circuses.

Will it hurt/help Bush, who knows. Doubtful that it will help Kerry at all.

Of course, the broadcaster COULD always air that footage of Kerry missing the plate... as in, let's see how these two candidates compare...

I've already thought about how weird it would be to have a Texas team and an Massachusettes team in the world series since that's the states that the two major party candidates are from. I'm an Astros fan. But, what would be your take if the series is between the Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Let's face it. The WS is going to take people's attention off of the election no matter who in playing.

Of course the superstitious would think the winner of the Series would win the White House. I'm not superstitious, but nonetheless I would become an Astros fan real quick were they to play Boston.

First off I'm a texan and a Stros fan but having these two would pull more to it because the media would hype it up as a post before this said.

Go Stros.

'Of course, the broadcaster COULD always air that footage of Kerry missing the plate... as in, let's see how these two candidates compare...'

The bigger item of notice from that game was, when Kerry walked out onto the field, there were VERY audible BOOOOOS from half the stadium. IMO, that is why he hasn't "hastened" to "Fenway Field" to see "his boys" play...and besides, 'Lovey' doesn't seem to like the outdoors, and mobs of people...

I don't know.. doesn't the world series always collide with the election? It seems to me that this is a wash. If people aren't paying attention to the campaign, then they aren't hearing the Bush message either, and the thing is close, if you believe the polls (not sure I do, but I don't believe in getting cocky). Now, it is kind of a weird coincidence if we end up with a Mass-Texas series, but on the other hand the Red Sox, much like the Democrats, have been known to choke at the last minute and repeatedly disappoint their supporters. If that is the matchup I fully expect that we will see a lot of lame political metaphors over the stretch of such a series.

I actually happen to think the election is over, for all practical purposes. Some people have already voted, either absentee or through early voting. It comes down to turnout in the key states. The poll swings won't matter much, though I expect the media to play up the horse race and truth will get harder to discern as we get closer to the time. The game is on the ground. There's really nothing more to say. It would be nice to see a consensus among pollsters that Bush has a commanding lead, but I almost think it would be better for him to peak a few days before the election -- but even if he doesn't, I don't think it's cause for concern. It might almost be good for us if Kerry appears to surge a little, because the worst thing that could happen is for people to get complacent.

I do enjoy the image of Kerry bungling the pitch. Maybe he can try to pitch through his legs. At any rate, we can hope he'll say something that will reveal his ignorance of the game.

Yeah, I'm just waiting for him to regale Red Sox fans with his tales of the "Big Red Machine."

Wouldn't Kerry have the same issues no matter who is in the WS?

Allow me to give a few reasons:

1.Kerry is from Boston and is hugh sports fan.
2. To make the Series, the Sox would have to beat the Yankees four strait, something never before done in an ALCS (after being down three).
3. Few teams are disliked more then the Yankees, nor liked more then the Red Sox.
4. Kerry will have time to make an appearance at the game, but will probably embarrass himself "I always love coming to old Fenbert Park"
5. W will have a chance to shine.
6. With Boston in ratings will skyrocket. With Yankees.....yawner time.
