MATTHEWS: Let me ask you the question aboutthis is going to cause some trouble with peoplebut as an historian now and studying the Revolutionary War as it was fought out in the South in those last years of the War, insurgency against a powerful British force, do you see any parallels between the fighting that we did on our side and the fighting that is going on in Iraq today?
CARTER: Well, one parallel is that the Revolutionary War, more than any other war up until recently, has been the most bloody war weve fought. I think another parallel is that in some ways the Revolutionary War could have been avoided. It was an unnecessary war.
Had the British Parliament been a little more sensitive to the colonials really legitimate complaints and requests the war could have been avoided completely, and of course now we would have been a free country now as is Canada and India and Australia, having gotten our independence in a nonviolent way.
I think in many ways the British were very misled in going to war against America and in trying to enforce their will on people who were quite different from them at the time.

"If Carter had his way we would be a totally socialist country and to be fair, every country would have nuclear weapons."
INDEED ! Let's not forget Jimmy's contribution = A nuclear North Korea.
Jimmy is the poster child for my Tagline.
Billy Carter was a drunk, Jimmie is an idiot. Bush is to blame.
Actually Germany invaded Poland. Following the invasion the other European powers declared war, making the German invasion of France (via Belgium as always) in some respects a pre-emptive strike.
Some historians suggest that if Hitler could just have fought a war in the East he would have preferred to, but knew it was an impossibility in geopolitical terms. Naturally once he finished in the East he would have turned West anyway.
Actually, Jimmah Carter serves a valuable purpose - he points out what happens if someone with his views actually were to lead this country. Fortunately, the lesson only lasted four years. I don't know if we could have survived eight.
Of course Carter's logic would support a negotiated resolution to the Palestinian issue.
The alternative logic - which is also valid - would indicate that the Palestinians should keep fighting.
I'm sorry, this line of posts is so old I don't remember what I wrote. Could you steer me to the post number you're asking about?
I've gone back to read some of the posts here...not sure why this thread was resurrected!!
But...Carter..pppfffttt..
Jimeny Carter is useless and a piece of dirt....put him back with his 'peanuts' and let the world go on....
What a buffoon.
Is he aware that Canada was not legitimately its own nation until 1982?
Well said!
Wow....Wow...."Nowhere in your (Jimmy Carter) incoherent ramblings can there be considered anything close to a rational thought, I award you no points..." Billy Madison
"And if Adolf Hitler only been a little more sensitive to the plight of Jews and Slavs, then World War II would not have been necessary."
Somebody commit this old fool. Or elect him to head up the DNC.
Any comment by Carter, sends the old BS Meter into high gear!
I'm surprised this moron can breathe on his own

If the whole colonies remained under British Crown the slavery would be abolished earlier without civil war. The whole North America would be one big Canada :)
He must have been beaned by a 2 X 4 during one of his Habitat For Humanity gigs.
