You should lead them on (thinking they've got a sale) and then smash them.

The Times declared war on Bush over five years ago and hasn't let up since. At some point you just flat run out of credibility, a lesson the staff of the Guardian might want to keep in mind. Nobody who employed Robert Fisk has a thing to say about objectivity.
To: Former Military Chick
Bush political consultant Mark McKinnon as saying: "All of you ... up and down the west coast, the east coast, a few blocks in southern Manhattan called Wall Street, let me clue you in: we don't care. You see, you're outnumbered two to one by folks in the big, wide middle of America - busy, working people who don't read the New York Times or Washington Post or The LA Times. And you know what they like? They like the way he walks and the way he points, the way he exudes confidence. They have faith in him. And when you attack him for his malaprops, his jumbled syntax, it's good for us. Because you know what those folks don't like? They don't like you!"
Best read of the day!
I thoroughly enjoyed this post.

What everyone seems to miss is that newspapers are IRRELEVENT nobody cares what they say. I only get the paper for local news and comics and crossword puzzle. They should wake up and smell the coffee. Network news and newspapers are todays buggywhips. The only; and my source of news is internet. The great fourth estate is on a Titanic cruise. Remember teletype and Telenews?

...the paper's coverage of the candidate was considered to be among the most generous of any of the major dailies', particularly the work of Frank Bruni, the beat reporter who travelled extensively with the Bush campaign. In his book about that time, Ambling Into History, published in 2002, Bruni wrote that while watching the first debate from the audience, he thought Bush had done so poorly that he was sure he had lost the election. Yet Bruni never mentioned his sinking feeling to readers during his generally upbeat coverage of the Bush campaign. You see, the times was generous to W because a reporter who formed an opinion which was waaaay outside the mainstream (Gore was a laughingstock after that sighfest of his) managed to not insert it into his coverage. Boy, do I feel foolish for ever doubting the integrity of the times!

Someone please tell me why the White House just, simply, pull the W.H. Press credentials from the NY Times? Reporters don't have a right to be there. It is a privilege - and the Times constantly abuses it.
To: Former Military Chick; Peach; Mo1
What they have basically done by words and deeds is to say to the New York Times: 'We don't need you. We can get our message out without you.'" You bet yer sweet bippey you liberal hag-rags! Ping to a laughably entertaining article.

Or maybe they have decided to blame the newsroom for our opinion pages, though they certainly know that the editorial writers and columnists operate completely independent of reporters and editors."Nah, the President just understands that the NY TImes has become fishwrap in it's quality of reportage and editorials.

Has the N.Y. Times ever yet acknowledged the Soviet gulags?

They still call once in a while - gluttons for punishment ... and as soon as they identify themselves I hang up. Next time, tell them, "I tried your paper a while back, but I found my canary wouldn't sh!t on it."

Seems like the Guardian is the one who's declaring war. They'd have a fit if American conservatives held a letter-writing campaign to elect Michael Howard.
