There will be a FReep/pro-Bush rally along HWY. US 220 Bypass just south of the NC/VA border on Sunday October 24, 2004, starting around 8:00 AM. This event will coincide with the NASCAR Subway 500 at the nearby Martinsville Speedway (VA), scheduled for that afternoon.
I plan to erect a large 4'X 8' Bush-Cheney banner along US 220 northbound, which is the main artery for race traffic from NC to the speedway. With 100,000 fans expected to attend the race, this is a great opportunity to show our support for President Bush and perhaps sway a few undecided voters. I will have Bush-Cheney campaign materials on hand for any race fans who stop by.
This event will take place at Dexter's Restaurant/Truck Stop on US 220 North Bypass (on right, if traveling north), just a few miles south of the NC/VA border, about 25-30 miles north of Greensboro. I am trying to finalize arrangements for parking with the restaurant owner, but even if he refuses, we have 20-30 feet of shoulder space to hold this event. I have received permission to hold this rally roadside from Rockingham County (NC) Sheriff Sam Page and no permits are necessary. I have posted a link below to an Expedia Map of the general location (the physical address of the restaurant is 9601 US 220, Stoneville NC 27048).
I had hoped to find a location in Virginia closer to the racetrack, but Virginia DOT and VA State Police officials frowned upon this idea as they already have their hands full with race traffic. Plus, I was unable to find any private property near the speedway to hold this event. Martinsville Speedway does not permit solicitation of political materials on their property.
A good turn-out of Bush supporters, FReepers, and Protest Warriors would look good as tens of thousands of motorists will pass on raceday. Hope to see you there!

I had trouble accessing the enclosed link. Try going to Expedia.com, go to "maps", and type in "9601 US 220, Stoneville NC 27048" as your destination/location. I tried this with Yahoo Maps and it gave the wrong location on its map.
Dennis Prager was just suggesting that the term "fundamentalist liberal" should be inserted into the english language. Your protest sounds like a great place to start using it.

Please add this to your ping list. Thanks.
Thanks for the work, don't forget some Burr for Senate signage while you're at it!
Will do! I'll bring along a Burr, Ballantine, and Virginia Johnson sign for good measure. Thanks.
Thanks for the ping.
And South Carolina pingers to you, Swampy :)
Be sure to type in "9601 US 220 BYPASS, Stoneville NC 27048" when using Expedia.com for map and directions. Leaving out "Bypass" will give map/directions to Business 220 in Stoneville (incorrect).
BTTT
thanks for pinging this event
I wish I could make it.
I hate you can't make it, but I do appreciate any support I can get.
Are you in the 13th Congressional District? If so, what have you heard about the Johnson-Miller race?
I live in Edgecombe County, in the 1st District.
I did check out Johnson's website, and I wish I could vote for her.
Looks like unless Dority pulls out a miracle*, I will be stuck with G.K. Butterfield.
You wouldn't believe the number of "W '04" stickers I saw last weekend at the Truck race at Texas Motor Speedway. They where everywhere.
That's awesome! I believe that Bush has the NASCAR vote locked up, but there still may be some "undecideds" out there from swing states. I hope to do my part to resolve that this weekend.
Just to update everyone on the help I have received in the course of organizing this event. I did receive a large number of Bush-Cheney bumper stickers from the Gsbo regional office of Bush-Cheney '04 (thanks to Brad Jones). Also, I received a large Ballantine for Governor sign from the Guilford County GOP to display at the FReep. However, I did not receive any such help from the Henry County (VA) GOP or Roanoke, VA regional office of Bush-Cheney '04, eventhough I did ask for their aid. This factor did enter into my decision to hold this FReep in NC instead of VA (that and the fact that VA state officials discouraged this FReep so close to the speedway).
VERY GOOD!
I have posted a link to this thread on the NC board.
I have updated this FReep and moved the event's location to a much better location...please click on link to updated thread for details:
