Hillary Blasts Bush on Vaccine Shortage

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton is blasting the Bush administration for the flu vaccine shortage, despite her own role in causing the crisis with her health care reforms in the 1990s.

"They're more interested in tax cuts for the rich than for flu shots for everyone who needs them," Clinton railed Monday afternoon at a press conference at New York's Ryan/Chelsea-Clinton Community Health Center.

"This administration has their priorities wrong," she added. "And we've really paid a big price for their negligence." But according to the Wall Street Journal, though Hillarycare as a whole crashed and burned in 1994, the former first lady was able to change the laws governing the manufacture of vaccines.

And the results have been disastrous.

During last fall's flu vaccine shortage, the Journal noted:

"The reason for today's shortage - as well as seven previous preventive vaccine shortages since 2000 - is that there are just five vaccine makers. This lack of suppliers is partly thanks to Hillary Clinton, who as first lady turned government into the majority buyer of vaccines and pushed prices so low as to make business unsustainable."

In July 2003 the Journal noted that the problem goes back to 1993, when Mrs. Clinton's "Vaccines for Children Program" was first implemented.

The vaccine crusade was being pushed at the time by Mrs. Clinton's Children's Defense Fund mentor Marian Wright Edelman - even though U.S. child vaccination rates in the early 1990s were considered relatively high by medical experts.

But that didn't stop Sen. Clinton and her "reformers." She pressured Congress to back her plan in a bid to make vaccines more available to poor, uninsured and underinsured children. In the process she turned the government into the major purchaser and distributor of vaccines.

Not only did Sen. Clinton's reform fail to result in any noticeable increase in childhood vaccination rates, it managed to drive down financial incentives for private companies to develop and produce vaccines.

A year after the Journal's report on Sen. Clinton's crusade, the number of manufactures producing flu vaccine has declined to just two.

Send her sick arce to Florida, I would love to find a sink hole for her to explore, a real deep one. She is not only a wart on the nose of society, but a wart on the nose of the female gendre.

Not that she was ever attractive, but she used to at least take care of herself and was always presentable, she now consistently looks like she's been on a three day drunk....Has Billy Boy driven her to drink?

Don't EVER forget that this is what the Demodog's call the "smartest (democrat) woman in America".

That she even dares to make a peep about this subject demonstrates just how intelligent Democrat women are. She clearly understands absolutely zero about economics, capitalism, or what really makes America the best country in th world. I'm glad that I know some of those Democrat women who have had the wisdom to switch parties...

I hope she gets the flu. I bet she managed to get herself a flu shot --- over the needs of someone in poorer health who might actually need one.

Wow, was this a stretch for the wicked witch of the Dems...with her fanatic desire for presidential power, she is really trying to make it look good...

OMG. You are so right. Just yesterday, there was a letter to the editor in our daily paper (Cedar Rapids Gazette, can't link, requires subscription) from some Hillary fan BEGGING people to stay home on election day so Kerry did not win. Her rationale was that if Kerry won, the Hildebeast would be too old to run after Kerry's 2nd term!!!!

Exactly. But all ideologues have the notion that good intentions are good enough, that it's more important to feel good about oneself than to enact policies which actually result in good. Hers is the mindless "do something; anything!" mindset which consistently results in more problems than it purports to solve.

Wishing and hoping won't do it. google doesn't lie -- but a Clinton doesn't know the truth.

If you like the vaccine program you will just love Kerry's health care plan, warmed over hillary-care.

I do have to admire how Democrats can seem to work together to form a well orchastrated smear campaign in order to achieve maximum volume.

Republicans are usually busy trying to look impartial or fair minded that they end up haphazardly aiding the enemy.

*sigh*

Chelsea Clinton Community Health Center?! What did she ever do to get a building named after her? Is it one of those free clinics?

We can live without it, and even WITH it, the Flu can and DOES still get you.. eventually.

Of course --- but that isn't what Hillary wants people to believe. I've never had a flu shot, have never missed a day of work, nor have my kids had a flu shot --- never but never missed school. Hillary wants the population to feel very dependent on the government --- we'll die without our vaccines!! We cannot believe in our own immune systems, we can't believe in our B-cells --- because she can't figure out how to get control over those.
