Hillary Blasts Bush on Vaccine Shortage
NewsMax ^ | October 18, 2004 | Carl Limbacher

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton is blasting the Bush administration for the flu vaccine shortage, despite her own role in causing the crisis with her health care reforms in the 1990s.

"They're more interested in tax cuts for the rich than for flu shots for everyone who needs them," Clinton railed Monday afternoon at a press conference at New York's Ryan/Chelsea-Clinton Community Health Center.

"This administration has their priorities wrong," she added. "And we've really paid a big price for their negligence." But according to the Wall Street Journal, though Hillarycare as a whole crashed and burned in 1994, the former first lady was able to change the laws governing the manufacture of vaccines.

And the results have been disastrous.

During last fall's flu vaccine shortage, the Journal noted:

"The reason for today's shortage - as well as seven previous preventive vaccine shortages since 2000 - is that there are just five vaccine makers. This lack of suppliers is partly thanks to Hillary Clinton, who as first lady turned government into the majority buyer of vaccines and pushed prices so low as to make business unsustainable."

In July 2003 the Journal noted that the problem goes back to 1993, when Mrs. Clinton's "Vaccines for Children Program" was first implemented.

The vaccine crusade was being pushed at the time by Mrs. Clinton's Children's Defense Fund mentor Marian Wright Edelman - even though U.S. child vaccination rates in the early 1990s were considered relatively high by medical experts.

But that didn't stop Sen. Clinton and her "reformers." She pressured Congress to back her plan in a bid to make vaccines more available to poor, uninsured and underinsured children. In the process she turned the government into the major purchaser and distributor of vaccines.

Not only did Sen. Clinton's reform fail to result in any noticeable increase in childhood vaccination rates, it managed to drive down financial incentives for private companies to develop and produce vaccines.

A year after the Journal's report on Sen. Clinton's crusade, the number of manufactures producing flu vaccine has declined to just two.

What is the most important point of all, after the earthquakes, the volcano eruptions, and the hurricanes, is that we put the blame where it should for those green eggs and ham, on President Bush!

Hillary used to be an attorney for Wallmart.....

You mean Wallmart doesnt have any....if GW Bush isn't Wallmart's supplier than
how (pray tell) is GW Bush responsible for any vaccine shortage...
any more than he is responsible for a shortage of aspirin cottage cheese or Viagra?

Oh I forgot in Democrat lexicon the Govt is expected to have everything 'we the people' need.

All 'we the people' have to do in return is sell our souls to get 'what the Govt feels we need' and WILL have.

Like you and Karl said Hildabeast ..."We are going to have to take stuff away from you for the public good"

imo

Interesting that she called attention to it at all, she's been almost non-existent. Maybe this is her token "support" of sKerry sKampaign. Today was healthcare day for Lurch afterall.

Odd, I was in doctors waiting room today, waiting for someone else and the nurse asked if I wanted a flu shot. So I took it. All Bushs fault she got me.

I shall name a new dinosaur after Hitlery: Clintonsaurious. Now if there were a meteor strike on the Earth to cause all of these dinosaurs to go extinct, that would be one event I would gleefully blame Bush for.

"We can live without it, and even WITH it, the
Flu can and DOES still get you.. eventually."

I agree. Too much vaccines weakens the bodies own immune system. This sort of hype should be for people with immune systems already in deterioration or next to nonexistant immune systems

Hill should have called in the photogs to snap her giving Bill his meds, playing the loving, caring wife. She should have kept quiet about this...but hey, the truth hurts. She had to respond when the flu shortage landed on her plate and she knew it belonged there. After all, she's running for pres in four years and can't have this label aound her neck. No sirree.

It's getting to be too predictable, that being on what and when Hillary speaks. Every time she does it's entirely to avoid the responsibility she may share in anything which is not going well. My kids stop doing this around the age of eight to ten. It's like when you walk thru the door and hear a chorus of "I didn't do it, he did" and there is a broken lamp on the floor. Someone threw an ashtray and broke the lamp and all they think is important is being obsolved of any culpability.

Gosh, you're right; she hasn't "spoken" in quite a while, has she?

Think this is pre-emptive?

That evil, Ugly, HATEFUL S L U T !!!

Her "Vaccines for Children Program" is a SIGNIFICANT factor in the shortage, a program she helped push through even though vaccination rates for American children were very, very high in those days (but have subsequently plummeted -- Thank you, you vicious b*tch!).

Sheesh, between Hillary and John Kerry's running mate, it's absolutely astounding that we have ANY vaccinations at all available to us in this country.

Yes they do, and they probably will get away with it. Never underestimated the laziness of the American people to actually think for themselves.

"and the American people will finally have the healthcare they deserve".

I'd like to edit this just a bit, it should say:

And if the Witch has her way, all pharmaceuticals will go the way of the vaccines...the government will set prices artificially low; lawsuits and liability will remain major depressors of the market; R&D will plummet...and the American people will finally have the healthcare that only Hilary and the other leftist deserve
