N.J. Mom Vows to Keep Protesting Iraq War
Associated Press ^ | 10/18/2004 | JOHN P. McALPIN

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. - When President Bush and the first lady come looking for votes in New Jersey, Sue Niederer vows to be nowhere near them. She doesn't want to risk finding herself in handcuffs again. Last month, police escorted Niederer from a rally after she demanded to know why her son, Army 1st Lt. Seth Dvorin, was killed in Iraq. Dvorin died in February while trying to disarm a bomb.

Video footage of Niederer holding a sign with the words "President Bush You Killed My Son" was splashed across television screens for days. Prosecutors later dropped trespass charges against her.

But, by the end of 2003, he was disillusioned with the war. During a two-week leave Niederer begged him not to go back.

"He said, 'Mom, I'm a lieutenant. I have 18 men under me. I must bring my men home safe. That's my mission,'" Niederer recalled.

The next day Niederer watched the news and saw Bush administration officials say there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

"My son dies the day before and you're telling me the reason we went to war was a mistake. How do you think a mother feels?" Niederer asked.

What is so terribly sad is that she didn't understand her son or what he was doing. That is reason to cry.

This woman illustrates, unfortunately, what is really wrong with the Democratic party.

Normal, healthy, balanced people can see that the people who died on 9/11 were killed by terrorists.

The Democratic Party thinks that the USA, particulary Bush and Cheney killed them.

This unfortunate woman, who is obviously embittered over the death of her child, has chosen to align with the liberal morons in this country. For her, it is sad that the death of her son has no meaning.

But there is a reason a huge majority of military people plan to vote for George W. Bush. THEY understand there is a reason their lives have become difficult and dangerous. That reason is 9/11.

This infuriates the Democrats, who feel that the Military should be pinning the blame for their increased and extended deployment cycles on the Bush Administration.

If the Military were composed of the mindless, moronic nitwits who had no other working options in life but the Military, then perhaps, that would be true.

Thankfully, it is not. Some of the most talented and capable people in our nation work not in Wall Street, but the Military.

"I'm not going near any of the Bushies," said Niederer, a substitute school teacher. "I'm not going to subject myself to any of it. My point was made."

How heroic. /s

Why did her son join the military in the first place? Was it to get those wonderful college benefits? People forget that when joining the military, you are giving of yourself to protecting your country. Going for any other reason is really idiotic.

You go where the President sends you and you serve with honor and you will possibly give your life because that is what yoiu chose to do.

To answer Ms, Niederer's question about why her son died in Iraq, she should only have to look at that casket and realize her son gave his life for his country and to say anything about it is dishonoring her son.

Great, great analysis!

I've sent your comments in their entirety to a little email-sharing group -- a few of us who have family members serving in Iraq & Afghanistan share emails. Emails from our loved ones and comments like yours are what keep us going.

Thanks for taking the time to make a few old geezers just a bit prouder. Our kiddos are heroes to us . . . it's nice to know others share that view.

Sue Niederer was standing in the middle of the large audience in the Colonial Volunteer Fire Company house in Hopewell Township, N.J. She was looking up at Laura Bush, who was speaking sweetly to the audience.

Sue wore her new T-shirt, "George Bush You Killed My Son."

Sue Niederer called out to Laura Bush, "When are yours going to serve?"

Sue thought that Laura Bush looked dumbfounded. She saw Laura Bush turning away.

"I thought they would send someone up to me and bring me back and let me tell her in private about how I felt, and many others, too. Not these people."

As the first lady continued speaking, several people shouted back at Sapir Niederer. One woman yelled, "Your son chose to fight in that war."

Secret Service is investigating Niederer's comments

"I wanted to rip the president's head off. Curse him, yell at him, call him a self-righteous bastard and a lot of other words. I think if I had him in front of me I would shoot him in the groined area. Let him suffer. And just continue shooting him there. Put him through misery, like he's doing to everyone else. He doesn't deserve any better….We are allowing him to get away with anything he wants to do. He flat out lied to us, killing our troops. He doesn't face the fallen family. If this is what we reelect, we deserve everything we get."

Your son was a gift, thank God for him and remember all the days that you saw his face and held his hand. Not many woman can say that they had a son, only that they wish they had been able to have children. Just think that because of your son and all the brave soldiers someday you will be able to visit the place where the Garden of Eden once stood.

Ever since the war in Iraq started I've always wondered why so many Christians have protested it. Iraq is home to some of the most important sites mentioned in the Bible. Christians should realize that after the fall of Saddam Hussein the door to the past will some day be opened to foreign visitors. That is, after Iraq becomes the nation that the United States has hoped it will be.

The Christian people will be able to visit the place where they are told it all began, at the crossroads of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, in whose lushness once stood the Garden of Eden in the city of Qurnah (Genesis 2:10-14).

Another city the Christian people will be able to visit is the city of UR. Genesis 11:27-32 suggests that Abraham lived here. And, the city of Babylon is where the Tower of Babel was built.

For all Christians the journey to the past begins in Iraq.

If our children voluntarily enlist, we cannot blame anyone. My son enlisted voluntarily for the bonus and education benefits. 9/11 happened 17 days before my son graduated from special forces and he told my husband and I to be brave for him because he would fight to the death if he had to.

He was proud of this country and in his words he asked us, "Have you seen what they did to our beautiful country? We can't let them get away with it. I will not let them get away with it. Be brave for me mom and dad. When I enlisted I knew that someday I might have to go and fight."

I wanted to scream but I didn't I stood there proud of a young boy that had suddenly turned into a man. The same type of man that we need, should we ever have to defend ourselves here at home.

What does that have to do with the price of Chinese missile guidance technology?

There were two terrorist leaders being housed in Baghdad at the time, remember?

Plenty of links to Al-Qaeda. All you have to do is look.

Bumblebee58,
I can understand why you would see no connection between our freedom in our safe homes and our soldiers serving in Iraq. You would have seen no connection between Japan attacking us and our making Germany our first military priority in WWII.

We can no longer wait for the fight to come to us. So you think there is no linkage between what happens in Iraq and international terrorism? How do you explain the presence of Abu Abbas and Abu Nidal in Iraq?

Do you suppose Iraq is to terrorists as Florida is to Senior Citizens? Perhaps they like to go there because the weather is easier to bear?

Oh wait...being in a warm climate, it is closer to places where there are cruise ships which contain elderly jewish tourists in wheelchairs who are more easily shot and dumped in the water. That's it! Oh darn, that only explains why Abu Abbas was there.

Abu Nidal probably liked it because it was only a short hop for his people to attack airports or hijack planes from some European airports.

You know what they really needed in Iraq? One of those posters, displayed prominently in the Baghdad airport that says "IF YOU LIVED HERE YOU WOULD BE HOME BY NOW!"

Bah. Sometimes I don't know why I let people you irritate me. None of whom were Iraqi, indeed.

I hope someone lets the terrorist who is about to detonate the bomb in your pizza joint (while you enjoy a slice) know that the efforts of the USA did not pass a "global test", so that should keep you safe.
