PHOENIX (October 17, 3:36 pm ADT) - Police on Sunday were still trying to determine who was driving a stolen truck loaded with illegal immigrants that smashed into other vehicles and rolled over, killing six people and injuring 15, some critically.
--snip--
The impact tore the roofs from some cars and trapped several motorists in their vehicles, Redmond said. James Lee, 74, and Emilia Lee, 71, of Huachuca City, were killed when the pickup hit their vehicle.

Bloody amazing -- not one of the news rags in Arizona bothers to put out an update, but the Anchorage Daily News up in Alaska manages to put the story online.
The one with two broken thumbs between the 2nd and 3rd row, two broken arms, and steering wheel detrius in the corpse. But that may take some time to sort out.
Prayers for the families of the innocent, and for the investigators that have to deal with the mess.

What bothers me is that it wa stated that the problem was a lack of translators. Hey folks, if these were mexican illegals, fully 20% of the population of Arizona speaks Mexican. What language were the police having trouble translating?
Arab?
Cr@p! Payday weekend shopping at the PX/Commisary for a retiree and his bride. Prayers continue for the families.

I was at the intersection... IT WAS A MESS!!!!!!
Mandatory DEATH sentence for coyotes!!!!
Oh my. I pinged you to the first posting of this...I had no idea you were there. My niece was in the area, too.
From what I understand, emergency response personnel did one heckuva job taking care of the injured.
How are you?
Few here in Sierra Vista speak Spanish, even if they have Hispanic names. There are always a few Arabic translators on hand at Fort Huachuca, so that would not have been a problem.
More likely they had a few illegals from way south around Chiapas or Xoahaca; they speak their own dialects and are usually no better in Spanish than I am.
Do airbags leave any residue when they deploy? (assuming this truck had them)
How could this possibly happen? I read right here in this forum that the mexicans crossing the border all carry green cards or have visas. Additionally, there are absolutely no "OTM's" crossing the border.
The newspaper reported that the driver got out and ran away.
None of us know how that was possible, but they described him as an Hispanic man with a ponytail.
I am saddened for the relatives of this couple. And I am OUTRAGED that this is allowed to continue. PAGING CLUELESS ASA!!!!!
At a bet, into the residential area south of the bypass. There are a number of suspected safehouses in that area.
I'd bet he's from the Phoenix area (just like the truck) and has valid ID. A lot of the drivers are second or third generation native born gangbangers. Easy money and lesser penalties than getting caught with a load of drugs.

It won't happen but it would certainly be a good idea --- very likely this guy planned on driving until he could crash the stolen truck into something or somebody and planned his escape that way -- and it worked. Interesting how he and some of his cohorts got away --- maybe he jumped before the crash --- obviously wasn't injured if he ran off in the desert and got away.
