What bothers me is that it wa stated that the problem was a lack of translators. Hey folks, if these were mexican illegals, fully 20% of the population of Arizona speaks Mexican. What language were the police having trouble translating?

Arab?

Few here in Sierra Vista speak Spanish, even if they have Hispanic names. There are always a few Arabic translators on hand at Fort Huachuca, so that would not have been a problem.

More likely they had a few illegals from way south around Chiapas or Xoahaca; they speak their own dialects and are usually no better in Spanish than I am.
