ok i'm a newbie, what does bump mean?
When people agree with a post, they'll respond with a bump, sometimes allerting other forum participants to the thread.
The bump raises the visibility of the post on the forum, thus making sure more people are aware of it.
Bump is used to send yourself a ping so you can come back and read it later, like tomorrow.
BUMP: A dance made popular in 1974 where the participating couple repeatedly bangs their respective buttocks and groin while spinning around in a circle.
Sometimes accompanied by the "Hustle", the "Latin Hustle" and in the case of severe wedding geeks, the Chicken Dance.
Here you go.

On some web discussion sites, the topic with the most recent post goes to the top of the list. So if you wanted to make a topic prominent you would 'bump' it to the top with a post.
But FR topics remain in chronological order, regardless of the number of posts. So unless you want to alert someone else by 'bumping' a specific member, the bump, as far as I can tell, only cluters up the thread.
