The Catholic ArchDiocese in Boston is bringing charges of Heresy against John Kerry.

Dear sartorius,
Interesting article, but I'm not sure it presents insuperable difficulties to the Cardinal Archbishop of Washington. I wouldn't be surprised to find Cardinal McCarrick wind up leading the band on purging pro-abort pols from the Church.

Dear ThomasMore,
I'll pray for you.

My bishop condemned denying people communion based on political beliefs. :/
I'm one of the signatories to this appeal to the Archdiocese. It's VERY doubtful they will act in the next couple of weeks, and doubtful they will act at all. We can but try.
I do think that the bishops are gradually coming around on these issues, like a supertanker beginning to turn. There was some hopeful commentary on the last bishops' meeting by Fr. Neuhaus in the latest issue of First Things. The good cardinal of Washington overplayed his hand, was caught lying, and has lost influence with the rest of the bishops. A new group of younger conservative bishops is beginning to gain more influence and respect among their colleagues. Some day a bishop may hesitate NOT to excommunicate a politician for being a big-time supporter of abortion, cloning, fetal experimentation, and euthanasia.
Drip, drip, drip. Things are moving our way.
There's not much doubt that kerry has been automatically excommunicated, latae sententiae. But with the assiduous help of the media he will simply deny it, and most people won't know what to think.
Public notice of his excommunication is what's needed at this point. Not just because of the seriousness of Kerry's sins, but because he is a flagrant public scandal, tending to produce error in the minds of many poorly educated or thoughtless Catholics.
Now if we can get Congress to do the same thing, I`ll sleep a lot better.
Monty Python fans will get the joke.
".....ther's a dead Bishop on the landing. Call the church police!"
I agree completely with your post.
"Option of dissent" is a made up phrase used by those who fail to live up to their responsibilities under the faith. Simply, there is no such thing.
Hmm... we learned it in my religion classes. :/ Oh well. I always thought it was a dumb loophole, anyway.
Yeah, I had the same type of catechesis growing up. Had to educate myself on my own Faith at the tender age of 25. :). Still Learning it to this day. God Bless,
I've been building up to get good and ticked at my Church for stading on the sidelines, but today at mass when the intentions were read, there was a not very vieled intention that "World Leaders and potential world leaders would see that the sanctity of life is preserved"...(I'm paraphrasing, but thats close...and it means abortion without a doubt) and thats as unsubtle as the church can be and still keep tax free status.
So I'm thinking, ok, I wish stronger language would have been used, but not as strong as saying "Its a sin to vote for Kerry", because I think to go too far may get under some socially liberal Catholics skin.
But as I'm leaving I see these blue prayer cards at the end of the pew. Its a prayer for Catholic voters, and it says goes on to say that Catholics should vote, and vote with pride, and our voices should be heard as a group.
Never mentioning the candidates, but I think its already been made clear enough.
I found what I was looking for from the church. My mind had already been made anyway, but I'm glad that they are at least getting in the game for others, that may have been thinking of staying home.
Yes, the suit was filed some time ago, but recently Mr. Balestrieri visited the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and submitted two dubia.
On his site is the (unofficial) response given by an American theologian, for the CDF. Affirmative.
I have a post about this on my blog:
Kerry: Heretic? Excommunicated? Probably.
Here is the organization's website that is doing this:
OK, so when is the thermal treatment?
Don't forget hot dogs and an ice-box with sodas and beer. One could turn quite a penny from operating a concession stand and renting out the chairs...
Talk about being burned at the stake... When Archbishop O'Malley rules for excommunication, MSM burns him as influencing election, cries for IRS investigation. What he should understand is that it's meaningless to a souless Senator...except in how it inflences voters.
The major RC news outlets won't TOUCH this. It makes the bishops look bad, and the editors have an allergic reaction to that kind of thing. National Catholic Reporter is way too liberal to even officially notice this. National Catholic Register will probably run Rome's statement without much comment. None of the diocesan papers are going to mention it - they are all controlled by bishops who don't want to tick each other off. This Rock, by Catholic Answers, may point out something, and the Wanderer will be all over it, but the rest are all feel-good magazines that don't do any hard-hitting analysis.
