An Open Letter to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth/Vietnam Veterans

Posted on 10/17/2004 1:06:36 PM PDT by KRaines

Thank you Swift Boat Vets -- and all veterans who have ever fought for America -- for having the courage to go back to an unspeakable place in your lives to try and prevent the world from becoming an unspeakable place, where terrorism is thought of as a nuisance and America becomes the terrorist's playground and killing field. Thank you. I'm sorry that America didn't welcome you home after your service in Viet Nam. And just in case no one ever said it ...

Welcome Home.

An Open Letter to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and other Vietnam Vets:

Thank you. Each and every one of you.

Thank you for your courage. Thank you for going to Viet Nam 40 years ago. Thank you for leaving your families when you weren't old enough to go, to fight a war that was hard for some to understand; perhaps even for some of you. But you went. And you fought. And you suffered. And your service to your country is something for which you should always be proud. You served with honor and dignity. You were forced to endure the treacherous actions of John Kerry then, and you are forced, along with the rest of us, to endure his equally treacherous actions today.

I'd also like to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry that so many people in this country are calling you liars. I'm sorry that the elite media has virtually ignored you. In their latest atrocity of presenting "proof" of John Kerry's Viet Nam stories, they are astonishingly more willing to believe a couple of Viet Cong "witnesses" than the word of hundreds of their own countrymen. (May I publically say here that the network news and CNN have deliberately misled America by refusing to report the truth time and time again during this Presidential campaign. ABC, CBS, NBC & CNN have each gone to extreme and atrocious lengths to steer this election to the left and all should be ashamed to call themselves news "reporters." At best, they are the mouthpiece for the Democratic party; at worst, they are liars who will do or say anything in order to steer the public to elect a man who will do or say anything to be the next President of the United States, instead of just reporting the news and letting America decide.) I'm sorry that in this post-9/11 America, the greatest country in the world, there are so many ideologues who refuse to see the truth. Like lemmings being led out to a kool-aid filled sea with Guyana-esque ease, they are so blinded by their hatred for George Bush that they are willing to elect a man whose only consistency throughout his entire political career (which began long before he came home from Viet Nam, in case there's a doubt in anyone's mind) is that in times of war or great conflict he has sided with the enemy every single time. Secret meetings with the Viet Cong in the 70's, consorting with Ortega and the Sandanistas during the Cold War, voting against the first Gulf War when it had passed the "global test" with flying colors, voting for the current war, then against protecting our soldiers in battle. We hear John Kerry SAY that he will continue the fight, and hunt down the terrorists all over the world to keep Americans safe. When we look for the evidence in the way that he has lived his life to back up his ever-changing statements, though, we see just the opposite. We see a younger John Kerry, who turned on his own comrades while they were being tortured in the Hanoi Hilton, a man dressed in tattered fatigues covered with Communist grafitti marching in his own country beneath the flag of the enemy. "AMERICA MUST SURRENDER" was his mantra. "KILL OUR SOLDIERS!" A man whose picture hangs in the War Protestors Hall of the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City since he was such an integral part of their success in a war against his own country. And this is the man the Democrats hold up to be the Second Coming. This man, who only months ago sent an email to the Iranians "apologizing" for the recent actions of the United States. This man, who will pull our troops out of Iraq leaving all those poor people at the mercy of radical Islamic terrorists, who will waste no time taking full control of both Iraq & Iran.  So then we’ll have Syria, oil-rich Iraq and nuclear-capable Iran, all under the control of radical terrorists.  A veritable triumvirate of terrorism.  And John Kerry wants to help the Iranians enrich their uranium.  (At least that's what he said a few weeks ago.) WHY do these lemmings honestly think that the Kim Jong Il's of the world WANT John Kerry in office? So we can all be friends and play nice together? Are they KIDDING me? After the recent terrorist activity in Russia, President Putin wasted no time in telling the world that he was supporting George Bush. He knows. John Kerry is more concerned with the world “liking us” than he is with protecting our soldiers while fighting terrorists in the Middle East. These men that he is so concerned about, with whom he wants to “rebuild relationships”, are the same men that turned their backs on Americans.  They are also the same men that were getting rich off of Sadaam's "Oil for Food" debacle, along with the other great troglodytes that make up the United Nations. When this new "nuisance" -- this triumvirate of terrorism -- points their weapons toward the north, one piece of advice to the ideologues: hugging a tree won't protect you when the bombs start dropping. In case you were thinking that it would.

God help us all if John Kerry is elected to the most powerful job in the world. God help us all.

You are the true heros of America. May God bless you all, keep you safe from every harm and fill your sleep with peaceful dreams.

Sincerely,

Kim Raines

Yes, we all thank you for your service to the country in Vietnam and again, now, trying to keep a traitor from becoming Commander in Chief and President of the US.

They will be vindicated when Kerry loses.

We have just over 2 weeks. Support the SwiftVets efforts to defeat Kerry.

I was a college student during the war and my brother was over there. I was one of the few on campus who honored the sacrifices made. You are and always will be my heroes and may God Bless you abundantly. Thank you for facing the pain of the past to save America from the pain of making a wrong choice on Nov. 2nd! YOU ARE LOVED AND HONORED!

I add my veteran's thanks to yours. It's about time that Curry and his ilk got the political version of a blanket party and the Swift Boat Vets and John O'Neill in particular have done just that.

Well done.

If I thanked each and every vet every day, it would not repay the debt of gratitude and respect they are owed.

We must support our veterans, past and present, today and always. Let not the re-writers of history, rob this generation of soldiers and families, repeat their crimes of the past.

We have an obligation of vigilance, each one of us.

True American Heroes who were denied a Hero's welcome home. My heart bled for them then and feel it's about time they got the due they deserved. Welcome home and thank you.

That's a wonderful letter. It brought tears to my eyes.

...for having the courage to go back to an unspeakable place in your lives...

There are many of us Vietnam Veterans who do not think of Vietnam as an unspeakable place in our lives. To us, Vietnam was the one time when our lives really had meaning and purpose, a time when we stood shoulder to shoulder with a valiant ally and resisted the spread of Godless communism in a part of the world that did not have the capability to resist a Soviet sponsored assault on their freedom.

This may sound corny in this day and age of personal irresponsibility, but you had to have been there in 1961 when a charismatic young president promised the world that we would “pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” With these words ringing in our ears, bands played, politicians made brave speeches, and my generation marched off to war.

Although current historians will try to tell you otherwise, we did defeat the communists in Vietnam before we passed the primary responsibility for Vietnam’s defense to the Vietnamese themselves. However, before leaving, we did promise that we would continue to provide our air power if the North ever again attacked them.

If I were to go back to an unspeakable time in my life, it would be when I had to stand powerlessly by and watch those I had promised to never abandon be butchered by Godless communists and the American people pretended that there was nothing that they could do.
