Kerry's gay ploy backfires
New York Daily News ^ | 10-17-04 | nydailynews

Despite Kerry's angel-faced sanctimony, this was a piece of premeditated gay-baiting (John Edwards used the same gambit in his debate with Cheney) whose transparent purpose was to keep some of the GOP's evangelical voters from turning out on Nov. 2. This was a miscalculation.

Since the debate, the Christian right has been rallying to the side of Mary Cheney. Well-known political preachers like Jerry Falwell and James Dobson have gone out of their way to defend her right to privacy. Conservative radio talk shows and Web sites have been flooded with denunciations of Kerry and support for Mary.

This reaction doesn't mean that the evangelical community has changed its doctrine, or its mind, on the sinful nature of homosexuality. It does reveal, however, that most born-again Protestants are not nearly as extreme - or as politically one-dimensional - as Kerry evidently imagined them to be. ....Mary Cheney may be gay, but it turns out there are worse things. At least she isn't a Democrat.

What Kerry and Edwards fail to understand is that as Christians, we can love the individual yet dislike the sin.

Either way, it is inappropriate to drag Mary Cheney into it constantly like Kerry and Edwards are doing for cheap political reasons. It's just like they've done with Ronald Reagan, Christopher Reeve and other issues. They are the epitome of political sleaze.

Yes, it is a great line...."at least she isn't a democrat"
Clearly both of these nitwits orchestrated to play this insipid card, thinking people are so stupid that they can't see through their EVIL devices.
Senator Kerry is not a good man....understatement ...Mrs. Cheney. Senator is absolutely diabolical. GRRRRRRRRRRRR

I have contemplated what my reaction would be if my offspring were to pursue an interracial relationship. I came to the conclusion that whoever they wanted to marry would be fine with me as long as they weren't democRATS.

What Kerry and Edwards fail to understand ...

Is that the Clintoonista baggage that is perculating within his kamp-pain's "inner circle" of influential advisers are not there, necessarily, to actually help "this" candidate.

I think the "Mary Cheney is gay" gambit is aimed as much at African-Americans as at the right. I understand homosexuality is decried in the African American community, especially among women. Kerry has been lagging among this group.

This is further evidence of how morally bankprupt Kerry/Edwards are. Kerry thinks that because he was an altar boy, that he "understands" the Christian way of thinking. He is completely clueless.

Has anyone else noticed that this Kerry ploy smacks of James Carvile tactics? I can almost hear old lizard-lips.

Yes, sleeze. On the one hand we have Edwards who knew better than to give his 16 year old son the keys to an SUV known to have rollovers ~ like he's a trial lawyer who knows all about this stuff. Still, that knowledge didn't stop him.

Then there's Kerry whose first thought in an abortion discussion is about men who rape their daughters. One does wonder why.

The thing that really scares me about these two and their machine Is that I think they are putting their best faces forward.
One can only imagine what they are like when they are not trying to impress us all by lying through their teeth.
