John Kerry says he's surprised by the flack over his lesbian comment. The media now in full gear scrambling to put out the fire on the Cheney lesbian comment made by John Kerry. He's not surprised by the flack over this. Folks, don't for a minute think -- you know, Edwards did it, Kerry did it. It means it's calculated. It means they've got some sort of focus group data that makes them think it's going to help them to do it. There's no other way to look at this. Kerry knows plenty of people who are lesbian and gay who could help him with anecdotal evidence answer the question, "Do you think it's a choice?"
He chose to put words in Mary Cheney's mouth and he doesn't even know her. The idea that he's surprised by this and he was only trying to be helpful. He was only trying to be nice? And I'll tell you what, this comment has drawn a backlash from both sides in Iowa. The Des Moines Register has a piece today that both Republicans and Democrats who heard this, did that flinch in the gut, just like I told you yesterday. The initial reaction that you had to it if you watched it and you saw it is the same that 90% of the people of this country had when they saw it, and no amount of spin is going to be able to change this. Because people's gut feelings are their gut feelings and the spin is only going to make it worse. You sit out there and say I was only trying to be nice, I was only trying to be helpful, if that's the case, talk about lesbians or gay people that you know, senator, who can actually tell you or can tell us that they've told you. But the idea of bringing Mary Cheney's name into it is nothing other than a political maneuver and everybody saw it for that, and it's not helped. And the fact that there's now a big scramble to try to put out this fire is evidence that it backfired on them.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
Jim McGreevey, who could have been a source for John Kerry, by the way, when he instead cited Mary Cheney on the Tempe stage ( transcript | video ) on Wednesday night. Jim McGreevey, who clearly Kerry knows, and he could have said you talk to Jim McGreevey and he'll tell you that it's not a choice. "McGreevey yesterday made his first appearance at a gay event since publicly acknowledging he's a gay American. McGreevey told reporters at the annual Empire State Pride Agenda Dinner, a civil rights fund-raiser, that he was going through a very challenging period in his life, and that today is a step forward in self-journey. 'This is an opportunity to be with friends and enjoy the evening,' said McGreevey, who attended the dinner but did not address the gathering."
Isn't it interesting that nobody asks McGreevey about gay marriage or discrimination against gays or even Mary Cheney? He shows up at these things and nobody wants to know what he thinks about these things. Just amazing.

it was orchastrated for all of them to participate in it .... even fat so.....
Paging Hillary Clinton, was that your "advice" to the Kerry campaign to bring up Lynn Cheney? B-P Sometimes I wonder if that was the poison pill the Clinton advisers FrankenKerry has on his staff gave his campaign for a Hillary run in 2008.
It was no surprise that Mrs. Edwards weighed in on this with her opinion.
She has gravitas.
Me to.
Not gravitas, just gravity; or mass at least.
She has gravitas.
Or at least GRAVITY.
. . . or gravitass?
She promised to get rid of waist, fraud, and abuse.
Kerry is a superior liar and calculating debator. In my opinion, he won the first debate and split the second. Like Clinton, he was great and talking alot but saying very little. Unfortunately for the right, the majority of the USA equates superior debating skills with higher intelligence and better judgement. MTV taught them that, and we're on our second generation that suck on MTV and popular opinion for their education. They sure don't get it from schools ("A" in sensitivity... wtf is that?).
Face-to-face with foreign leaders, Kerry can't hold a candle to Bush. But you won't see THAT from the MSM. This election will show me if the majority of voting Americans are sheep or have the sense to look beyond the facade. I fear that, due the younger generations' ignorance of issues and their reliance upon stars' opinions, that this election is already decided.
Of course, Bush IS a superior leader in every aspect I am aware of. We know that. But one more thing this election will tell me is whether or not the majority of voters remember history longer than the last episode of 'Friends'.
If not, they will not hold Bush in the correct perspective as one who has the experience and balls to do what has to be done. They will elect Kerry.
Maybe it's gravy...with every meal!
I am so sick of that fricken "Gay American" line. That is absolutely pathetic.
She also wants torte reform.
Okay, let's say Vanessa Kerry is Governor of Anystate and, as such, has authorized many executions of prisoners. Even though her father (and his party) are against capital punishment, Vanessa feels it is justified but in every other respect she is a good Democrat.
In the debate, Bush and Kerry are asked if they think prisoners are "bad seeds" or if they can be reformed. Kerry says they can be reformed and should not be punished, that as president he would sign a ban on capital punishment.
Bush says, it is a hard choice because we are all God's children, but I bet if you asked Vanessa Kerry how she felt about all those she's executed, she would say that justice had been served.
Now, do you see that as a cheap, tawdry political trick?
Moreover, Mrs. Edwardfs, back off. You haven't a right to speak about this. You are just some woman married to the v-p democrat nominee.
So far, wives of political candidates haven't been asked to debate. So, shut your big mouth, you don't understand it's not good to speak about another's family let alone daughter without knowing her from the day her proud father and mother held her in their warm and loving arms.
You wouldn't like it if a political opponent did the same. Gosh, I hope not. I do not think any loving Mother would.
Since Kerry doesn't know Mary Cheney, wouldn't this be considered "gossip". His mother should have said, "Integrity, Integrity, Integrity" a few more times...I don't think he got it!
Yah, and gray American; I suppose I could be a Eurobaldishgrayishamerican - I wonder where we are in the poll.
MEGA-gravitas.
