Kerry slams 'refusal to serve' "For the past week, they attacked my patriotism and my fitness to serve as commander in chief ... well, here's my answer," Senator Kerry said in Ohio. "I'm not going to have my commitment to defend this country questioned by those who refused to serve when they could have and by those who have misled the nation into Iraq. "Let me tell you in no uncertain terms what makes someone unfit for office and unfit for duty. Misleading our nation into war in Iraq makes you unfit to lead our country. "Doing nothing while this nation loses millions of jobs makes you unfit to lead this country. Letting 45 million Americans go without health care for four years makes you unfit to lead this country. "Letting the Saudi royal family control the price of oil for Americans makes you unfit to lead this country." Mr Bush spent the Vietnam War in the Texas Air National Guard, and had faced accusations that even then he was absent without leave for long periods. Mr Cheney received five deferments and once explained that he had "other priorities".

NEW YORK: Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry declared he had taken enough "incoming" yesterday and blasted back at his Republican antagonists by suggesting George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney were draft dodgers.
In his toughest counter-punch of the campaign, the decorated war hero said he was not going to have his military qualifications questioned by "those who refused to serve" in the Vietnam War.

Correct, as it turns out, but the total for the 8 years of the war was only 7,000 which meant if you signed up for National Guard Service your chances of going to Vietnam were infinitesimal. I'm not putting Guard service down. Duty it duty and it doesn't matter how you did it.
He's trying to maintain his base and sounds a bit panicked.
THK could be a stand in.
Too bad George Patton wasn't running the show over in Vietnam. He would have b*tched slapped that coward all the way to Red China where he belonged.
thanks---just added my name
You're welcome.
Somebody posted it here a while back and I've been mailing it around to my email pals.
I remember he was very upset with Jane's anti-American activity. For her to be saying today that she is a Democrat in honor of her father is pure crap and the heigth of hypocrisy.
If Kerry loses this election you can be sure he will blame it on George Bush.
AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTTT
Hell.
They could have reprinted this anytime from any (internal) speech from July 2003 through Nov 2004!
Isn't "hero" a somewhat subjective term. Isn't "decorated veteran" more appropriate?
From the National Guard History:
Company D (Ranger) of the 151st Infantry, Indiana Army National Guard arrived in country in December of 1968. The Indiana Rangers were assigned reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering missions. Operating deep in enemy territory, Ranger patrols engaged enemy units while conducting raids, ambushes and surveillance missions. "Delta Company" achieved an impressive combat record; unit members earned 510 medals for valor and service.
I believe I have read elsewhere (but cannot document right now) that Delta was the most highly decorated company level unit in the entire war.
Henry was a "Hubert Humphrey" democrat...a type no longer welcome in their party. Jane is a communist, so calling herself a democrat in honor of her father is hilarious!
But those 45 million all had health care during the Clinton administration, right? < / sarc >
If Kerry wants socialized medicine he should have the guts to say so outright. ......and then go on to tell the electorate how much it's going to cost them (in taxes).
Change a few words, and off to Joplin we go!!
My thoughts, exactly. I am ashamed that people like Jane Fonda and a host of others are associated with my generation!! I can't imagine what my dad would have done with me if I had behaved like Fonda, but suffice it to say I probably wouldn't be here today! :)
Kerry spin cycle on overdrive.
("Bush didn't question Kerry's patriotism - I did.")
