Chet Edwards, running against Arlene Wohlgemuth for the Texas 17th Congressional District (Bush's district), is getting desperate. His latest radio spot, running on WBAP during Limbaugh, makes the claim that Arlene Wohlgemuth is endorsed by the "fringe" National Taxpayers Union, which means the end of all defense systems. Huh? He's implying that a vote for Wohlgemuth is a vote against every weapon system Kerry hates (e.g., the joint strike fighter, the V22 Osprey, etc.), which will cost North Texas something like 60,000 jobs (don't remember the exact number, but it was absurd like the rest of this disingenuous ad).
Listen to Edwards radio spots or watch his TV spots and you get the idea that this is the most convervative member of Congress. He does this every time he's challenged, pretending to be conservative and sharing the values of his constituents while simultaneous promising to bring home the bacon.
His ADA rating is 80. His NARAL rating is 100.
He portrays himself as strong against terrorism in his campaign ads, yet check out the following quote...
"I find it incredible that in the 500-plus page report, there is not one mention of how our interventionist foreign policy creates enemies abroad who then seek to harm us. Until we consider the root causes of terrorism, beyond the jingoistic explanations offered thus far, we will not defeat terrorism and we will not be safer."

Oh, it's our fault terrorists attack us. Yup, this sounds like a strong on defense, conservative, strong on terrorism congressman.
Just say NO to Kerry/[Chet]Edwards.
