Is There An Easy Way To Record Rush's or Savage's Shows For Later Playback?
10.15.04 | Me

Posted on 10/15/2004 9:30:25 AM PDT by 7.62 x 51mm

Rush is on here in Penna at 12 noon, EST; Savage comes on at 6pm, EST. I'm frequently either on the road, or with customers here at my nursery, and sometimes miss part or all of their streamed broadcasts.

If anyone does record them, or anyother talk shows, what software do you like and use?

My computer's TV tuner card/ (www.hauppauge.com) doesn't works for streamed audio; only for the cable modem.

I went to ZDnet.com's downloads page, and found a boatload of players and recorders, but most seem to be for mp3/ mpeg files.

I've downloaded UltraPlayer (www.ultraplayer.com) and upgraded WinAmp (www.winamp.com), but neither seem to be able to record streaming content for later playback.

I'm not the sharpest pencil in the drawer when it comes to recording music files, so an *easy-to-use app* would be appreciated, if anyone could pls recommend one to me.

A technology came and went -- "MiniDisc" -- a handful of years back. It was replaced, more or less, by the memory-stick MP3 technology. But Sony and others have revamped the MiniDisc player/recorder. It's much better now. In device not much bigger than a deck of cards, you can record 8 hours straight with superb fidelity! On one AA battery, you get 9 hours of operation. I got one for my wife, who is a Rushanado par-excellence, so she can just set it, forget it, and get all the good talk shows in a row, then listen to them in the evening. She is thrilled with it.

Thanks, NVA; Savage is the missing part of the solution. I'm looking a radioshark now...

I use an application called ReplayRadio. It's available from Applian.com. It will record radio shows and save them as either MP3s or Windows Media files. I record The Tony Snow Show, Rush and Sean Hannity, then transfer the files to my PDA. I listen to the shows in the car on the way home. I have a cradle for the PDA that fits in the cupholder. It plugs into the headphone jack of my PDA (an HP iPAQ 5455) and transmits the audio through the FM radio. It works great.

I use mini-discs for listening to audio books, but there's still the timing issue for recording. Great for putting MP3's on, though -- Using one AA battery, I'm able to get over 40 hours of playback. When I use a NI-Mh battery instead, I've got a player that runs virtually forever with regular recharging.

And light too..

"...What's a cassette deck?...."

Miniature tape deck that records/plays audio. Surely you remember those!!

Some boomboxes will allow direct recording of whatever audio programming is in use (AM radio in this case).

But this approach still doesn't solve your problem. It has to come on automatically, which is why Kingu's VCR approach is the best solution.

Take your cassete tape recorder and duct tape it to your computer speaker

If you're going the VCR route (and I've done it successfully myself), remember to change your recording "source" from the default to "line in", and make sure your timed recording setup reflects the proper source.

Must record Rush today. Rush just confirmed that the AP "undecided" have been fixed. This 86 year old lady who stated she will now vote for Kerry after the 3rd debate confirms she voted for Clinton 2 times and Gore in the last election. She also stated she now lives in Arizona but is from SF. She had absolutely no reason to vote for Kerry except he looked better? Her chief complaint was Bush's policy on immigration but confirmed nothing from Kerry. She said that Rush was a negative influence about Kerry until she saw "presidential" material at the debate. Once a liberal always a liberal, even at 86!

I would, but it still doesn't solve the Savage side of the problem, j... Specialized software looks like the answer to both problems.
