DIGINITY OF THE WHITE HOUSE
New York Post ^ | October 15, 2004 | Editorial

Posted on 10/15/2004 6:31:08 AM PDT by OESY

...Both the veep and his wife, Lynne, reacted angrily to John Kerry's having pointedly noted in Wednesday's debate that their daughter Mary — who works for the campaign but keeps a low profile — is gay.

The suspicion is that Kerry meant to damage the Republican ticket in the eyes of any voters who have a problem with Mary Cheney's sexuality — that is, in the eyes of people that Kerry considers to be bigots.

Recall that Kerry's running-mate, John Edwards, also gratuitously brought up the subject....

Yesterday, Mrs. Cheney reacted furiously to Kerry's tactic, calling it "a cheap and tawdry political trick."

Which brought an outrageously over-the-top response from Edwards' wife, Elizabeth — who charged that the Cheneys are ashamed of their daughter.

"She's overreacted to this," said Mrs. Edwards on ABC Radio, referring to the veep's wife. "I think it indicates a certain degree of shame with respect to her daughter's sexual preferences . . . It makes me really sad that that's Lynne's response."

That's truly loathsome.

Was Mrs. Edwards not listening to her husband when he said, "You can't have anything but respect for the fact that [the Cheneys] are willing to talk about the fact that they have a gay daughter"?....

Kerry's campaign manager, Mary Beth Cahill, arrogantly dismissed any suggestion that her candidates were out of line, calling it "fair game" because the Cheneys' daughter is "a major figure in the campaign."

Actually, she's nothing of the kind: Though she's appeared with her parents, she doesn't give speeches and prefers to avoid the limelight....

Clearly, he has no respect for Mary Cheney; has he none as well for the dignity of the office he seeks?

The two candidates — and Elizabeth Edwards — owe Dick and Lynne Cheney a public apology.

Mary Cheney, too.

Nah...they don't need to apologize. They could just disappear on Nov 3 into obscurity and I think that would probably suffice. The people already know what kind of people they are. Let's just turn out hot and heavy on the 2nd and take care of this problem the old fashioned way....Keep them out of office.

Any voter that would be offended by Mary Cheney is certainly no going to vote for John Kerry. They have no idea how conservatives think or react.

I wonder if the Dims, er, Dems, realize that considering the children of Bush and Cheney as 'fair game' that their own kiddies are also targets. Imagine that pic of Miss Kerry at the French film festival (you know the one) and someone saying she wears clothes as flimsy as her dad's record. I'm sure Mrs. Edwards will not be haping reaping what she has planted.

Precisely. The best answer America can give these slimy frauds is to resoundingly reject them on November 2nd. And we can't allow voter fraud and trumped-up charges of 'disenfranchisement' gain any foothold, let's roar these creeps out of existence.

I wish the daughter would come out and voice her anger at him. Oh well...

It's not an attempt to swing voters over to Kerry, but rather to suppress turnout of President Bush's base (see DWI, 2000 election). Expect more of the same in the coming days.

Ms Edwards just can't deal with the fact that her husband looks WAY too much like Jack Tripper.

Despite requests from Cheney that his family not be brought into the public eye, the San Antonio News -Express reports story has proven too compelling for news outlets to leave completely alone. The fact that Mary Cheney may be on stage before millions in Philadelphia at the Republican National Convention celebrating her father's nomination is already a news wire item.
Gay civil rights leaders are not sure what to expect from Mary Cheney, though several news outlets says she plans to "enthusiastically" support the Republican ticket.

"Family trumps everything," said Bob Witeck, a gay marketing executive and a close working associate of Ms. Cheney's, told the Chicago Tribune. "They will close ranks and succeed together," he said. "All other considerations go aside." This was from 2000. But, the dums shills saying Cheney brought it up is a LIE. a Dum plant specifically asked Cheney about this in July or August. And wanted an answer "from the heart". This was an obvious evil dum plan from the start. Sick, pathetic, mean nasty evil people.

The dems know that they won't get the vote from conservatives. They're trying to suppress the Bush vote by getting the people they think are bigots to stay home.

Let's hope the recoil from that one throws him clear across the Atlantic into his native France. And twin shysters Johnnie and Liz can join him there for all America cares.

Not that I disagree with you, but what's the thinking (if there is any) behind this?

Am I supposed to think:
Mary's being gay is a result of Dick and Lynne's bad parenting, so they're not good people

- is that it?

It makes me really sad that that's Lynne's response."

I heard her comments yesterday while in the car. They are beyond outrageous; but the disrespect she showed Mrs. Cheney by calling her "Lynne" made them even worse.

She may have spoken in soft tones, but venom dripped from every word.

sinator hillary! should take nasty lessons from the portly ms. edwards.

You can tell alot about people by observing their spouses.

Teresa and Elizabeth are clueless individuals who have NO class.

The clincher was Wednesday night, when Kerry had an opportunity to talk about all the wonderful charity projects his wife is involved with, but shrugged off that honorable opportunity and ran to his mother instead.

Sounds like that marriage is another Bill/Hillary cliffhanger!
