A few months ago, my mother was diagnosed with severe chronic urticaria. Chronic urticara is marked by intense hives, all over the body, that persist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And my mother has one of the most acute cases that her doctors have seen. She has intense itching, all over... she cannot sleep or enjoy life as she is essentially in perpetual physical torment.
At first, they would give her medications, and she would get relief for a short while, but the hives have been overpowering the medications... not to mention all the steroids and shots have their own side effects. In fact, one of the treatments she got recently was a round of about 40 injections... so powerful that supposedly only about 3 doctors in the country would do it. Yet the hives have beaten it. Now, it appears as though there are no effective treatments or medications left.
My mother is the kindest, gentlest, smartest woman in the world without an ounce of selfishness. She's undergoing this torture without any relief, and the doctors are now telling her that these hives may take years to burn out.
She's had to put up quite a physical struggle, but I am posting this prayer request because I sense that her mental state and emotional state are now declining very rapidly. She's rapidly sinking in depression and we are all so powerless to do anything about it.

Nakatu X, I spent over 3 months in a situation like this that no one could diagnose. Do not give up hope. I found a doctor, after some who would not even touch me, who had an answer, and it still took a while. Fervent prayers for patience and finding the help, through God, that will be the answer.
Oh my God. I will say a prayer for your Mom. Keep after her -- don't let her give up!!
Try a holistic doctor, it may work better than conventional medicine. My thoughts are with you and your mom.
Oatmeal baths helped alleviate the itching.
The hives didn't clear up until she gave birth.
Strange thing about it............she has never had a reoccurrence since, but our son started getting mild cases about a year ago.
I've always thought it had to do with a change in hormone production.
Ask the doctor about that.

I'll send prayers, but will also suggest a more down-to-earth approach. The Internet is very, very powerful these days, and many people have joined online groups specializing in rare medical problems, shared resources, compared notes, and ended up finding solutions when even the best doctors had failed. I'm not suggesting buying into any of the kooky "alternative" stuff that the Internet is swamped with, but serious research and real experience with real patients and their families that you talk to about facts (though trying some inexpensive "alternatives" shouldn't be ruled out, as long as serious medical research supports their safety).
It's not that the doctors are incompetent, but even the best ones have to try to stay up to date on a wide range of conditions, and can't afford to hyperfocus on a single rare condition. This is what sometimes enables patients and their families to dig up solutions that the medical researchers have missed, even if they don't have any real medical or scientific background.
