Judge rules in Ohio ballot-casting case

TOLEDO, Ohio -- In a victory for the Democrats, a federal judge ruled Thursday that Ohio voters who show up at the wrong polling place on Election Day can still cast ballots as long as they are in the county where they are registered.

U.S. District Judge James Carr blocked a directive from Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, a Republican, who recently announced that poll workers must send voters to their correct precinct.

The judge said that voters who show up at the wrong polling place after moving without notifying the elections board, and those whose names cannot be found on the registration rolls, should be able to cast provisional ballots there.

Denying any voter the right to a provisional vote will erode confidence in the election and lessen the incentive to vote, the judge said.

"Lessened participation at the polls diminishes the vitality of our democracy," Carr said.

The decision is a victory for the Ohio Democratic Party and a coalition of labor and voter rights group, which said Blackwell's order discriminates against the poor and minorities.

Why in the hell is a Federal judge overturning a State Law?

Please do not muddy the waters with your hate speech. Judge Carr's party affiliation is not important and is certainly none of your business.

BTW, did you know that Mary Cheney is a lesbian?

Well aren't you special. I never said that it was required anywhere. I think you are a Dem trying to stir things up here and waste our time.

Oh for crying out loud.....I'm just trying to get an answer to a question! Is there anywhere where it's required to show ID when someone goes into vote?

Jezzus! I'm over 40 - I don't remember if I read the newspaper this morning....trying to stir up trouble - puhleeze. I stir up trouble when the need arises....I'm not interested in rising. On to other things then.

Silly JD - no! no!

Everybody knows the best polling place on November 2nd in Toledo is Franklin Park Mall - haven't you heard of the new drive-by voting - fill out your ballot and throw it in the giant vat outside Ruby Tuesday's! Vote as many times as you want! Free beers for all Democrats! ((sarcasm))

I live near Toledo and I am a Bush supporter and I am ashamed of this judge.

Pray for W.
