"John Kerry is a sphincter." (Jonah Goldberg)
National Review ^

Posted on 10/14/2004 9:31:17 AM PDT by Lunatic Fringe

I've always had two theories of this election. The first was the conventional wisdom: If Iraq and the economy were going well by Labor Day, Bush would be a shoo-in. But that's turned out to be not too reliable a rule of thumb, because the economy is neither bad nor good, politically speaking. As for Iraq, that's even more muddled. It certainly is true that Iraq is going poorly in many respects. But what the conventional wisdom — including me — failed to take into account is that Kerry could prove so untrustworthy that Bush could keep a double-digit advantage on foreign policy even though Bush's signature foreign-policy achievement is at best a work in progress.

My second theory involved an even more elemental fact. John Kerry is a sphincter.

Agreed. If history has shown us anything, it is that life and events are unpredictable. Voters need to closely examine the character of the candidates to see how they would handle the unknown.

Yes, but he is a master debater.

agree with Jonathan's premise...that Bush is more likeable and we saw that in this last debate. My question is how many tuned into this debate? Did enough undecided idiots watch?

Don't know about the authenticity of that quote (there are a lot of things attributed to Lincoln that he probably never said), but if it is true then Abe was a flaming hypocrite. In 1846 he was a congressman who opposed the Mexican War effort. His most famous speech that year gave direct aid and comfort to the Mexicans who had invaded Texas land to the north of the Rio Grande and attacked American troops.

Ya know, the president was PROUD as I've ever seen him about Afganistan having free elections, and he obviously thought every one else should be too. Also his statement about his faith was genuinely straight from his heart.

Contrast that to Kerry's every first thought starting with, "Unfortunately." I mean all Kerry can ever talk about is how Bush has screwed up. He has absolutely nothing positive about himself to say. Kerry has to try to convience people that he is Catholic. OH, and that quote he used from the bible "faith with out works is dead" was so out of context because it had nothing to do with what HE was trying to get across. Kerry, I don't believe has a clue what that verse signifies.

Translation: He had a face only a mother could love, but was that his eye or his mouth?
