IRS Asked To Probe Kerry Appearance At Church

POSTED: 6:55 pm EDT October 13, 2004 UPDATED: 7:01 pm EDT October 13, 2004

WASHINGTON -- The Internal Revenue Service is being asked to investigate whether a Miami church where Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry spoke on Sunday violated tax laws.

John Kerry courted the black vote Sunday in Florida, meeting with, among others, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Barry Lynn, of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, said statements by the pastor and leading Democrats during the worship service amounted to explicit endorsements of Kerry.

The Rev. Gaston Smith referred to his guest as "President Kerry," the Rev. Jesse Jackson led the congregation in a chant about voting for Kerry, and the Rev. Al Sharpton said a Kerry victory would be "payback" for George Bush's victory in 2000.

Lynn said churches that do invite candidates should also invite their opponents and should refrain from endorsing either one.

Meanwhile, it's not just Democrats hoping to get a little help from churches this election year.

The Christian Coalition is distributing 30 million voter guides that include conservative catch-phrases in describing the two presidential candidates.

The guides' use of wording like "unrestricted abortion on demand" has caused critics to question their fairness. The brochures also refer to "affirmative action programs that provide preferential treatment."

Starting Thursday, the group will be distributing the guides in churches, shopping malls and other public places across the country.

Coalition officials defend the brochures as non-partisan and denied they contained "loaded" language.

But some political analysts and critics said the guides almost always support the Republican campaign.

The Christian Coalition has nonpartisan status, which allows it to retain a federal tax exemption.

Right ... using clear English words to accurately describe candidates' positions is "unfair." Sheesh!

"Churches" that hold political rallies instead of worshipping God are already dead in the only way that really matters.

But some political analysts and critics said the guides almost always support the Republican campaign.

Actually the voter guides support Christian positions which are almost always held by republican politicians and almost always denied by democrats.

You cannot be a democrat and a Christian

WHAT IS WITH THIS HANDS GESTURE THING?? Does Kerry think evangelicals go around with their hands in a praying gesture all the time? Does he think it has meaning to religious people? It looks to me like he thinks he's a Budha.

It is one of those elitist snob things that he thinks he is suppose to do because he doesn't know any real people. They all hate his guts.

Isn't it interesting that sKerry, a Catino (Catholic In Name Only)chooses to use a paganistic method of greeting/acknowledgment especially to a Christian Baptist Church? He uses this folded hands gesture often in public, if you will notice. As with everthing else, he can be everything to everyone, including religion. The gesture is known as "Namaste" and is used by many pagan/wiccan practitioners in the USA. I know because unfortunately I have family that was caught up in it. Here's a little info to explain what this paganistic greeting means:

Namaste is a Hindu word and is pronounced "Nam-a-stay".
Traditionally, the word, “Namaste” is said as a greeting to another person while bringing together both palms of the hands before the heart in prayer position, and lightly bowing the head and shoulders. Herewith you surrender your ego, show that your hands are unarmed, and that you come in peace. The hands folded in prayer position also symbolize celebration and honor. The left and right hand brought together depict Union and centeredness.
When you greet another with the Namaste, you are acknowledging one of the following of several translations or meanings of the word:
“I honor the place in you in which the entire Universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of Love, of Truth, of Light and of Peace. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, We are One.”
“The God(dess) in me greets and honors the God(dess) in you.”
"I salute the divine qualities in you."
"I salute the God within You."
"My soul bows to your soul.”.
"The Great Perfection within me honors the Great Perfection within you".
The salutation Namaste is intented to fill one with reverence, calling forth feelings of respect, acceptance, openness and love. In Namaste you pay honor to the sacredness of all. In this holiness you become still for a moment. While meeting the other person on the level of the heart and soul, the separation between you and me crumbles into pieces; no longer is there another one – there is only One.

Haven't investigated the fine issue.

I do remember a number of article blurbs about specific churches being queried, threatened, investigaged.

I think virtually all of them capitulated in some way. I think one or two or three did not. Just gave up the tax exemption.

The liberals have intimidated churches for decades on this score. While violating the standard wholesale on the other side.

It's a disgrace; unAmerican etc.

It's NOT just this idiot's private little game. Lawyers for our side have had to get invovled more than a time or two, as I recall from the Christian press.

I am sure that when the investigation is over you will see that the Skerr-crow and his gang were supposed to take the "offerings" usually left for the "Lower Class Citizens". It was later discovered that the funds in question were going to the top 1 percent of the of the Tax Bracket. The Skerr-crow admitted that it would be better spent by Himself and the T-rex. Ha Ha Ha!

About time! The Dems came after J.C. here in Norman when he spoke at churches during the campaign and he was a minister -- said he should give up being a minister during the election.

About time they went after Kerry at all these churches giving campaign speeches.

Is this one of Kerry's daughters? Another potential Marfan case? It's the eyes, the chin, the loose jaw, the height...

Pitifully, I'm not getting the pictures.

Marfan's is passed from mother to son. Rarely from Father to daughter, normally mother to daughter. The question would be, did Kerry's mother have eye or heart problems. Normally in women, the height and joint problems are not as significant.

However it is known to happen.

The more I look at the Winter Soldier picture, the more I think you are right. Look at Kerry's fingers!

When was the last time a demon rat was held accountable for using a church for political purposes? This law applies only to Republicans. Demon rats are exempted from it.

Very often with his namaste! You are dead on in all the points you make. I know all about this namaste salutation. The Dalai lama does it but he's a real Buddhist while John Kerry is a New Age space cadet phony.

And here in the town where I live the local news station showed a news segment last Sunday on a pastor who preached on what traits we should be looking for as a leader in the country. This pastor never endorsed anyone, made it a point from what I can tell to *say* he wasn't endorsing. He just gave 7 traits to look for in a leader and those were shown on the news report. Nevertheless, they are painting this man as doing wrong when the exact same day, sKerry was openly campaigning in churches!

~banging head against wall in disgust~
