You are missing the big picture.

Nah - I blew that off to a liberal lawyer wanting to get a good smack in.

Here's why, emotionally, the case feel like extortion, even though legally it likely isn't extorition:

1 - In the typical settlement negotiation, the explicit claim is "Give me money or else I'll get more money from you in court," and the addendum "plus, your reputation will be detroyed" is obvious but left unstated.

2 - But here, the plaintiff's lawyer allegedly said, explicitly and as a negotiating tactic, in effect, "give me a lot of money or I'll destroy your reputation." Sleezy, but if there's a good faith claim involved, then likely legal.

I would love to see Oliver North in that time slot""

I vote for a "pair to draw to" How about Oliver North and Michael Reagan? That would make me sit up and take notice and get Direct TV.

Comments about the motive?

11. At all times mentioned herein, Defendant Bill O'Reilly was and is the host and "star" of "The O'Reilly Factor". The "O'Reilly Factor" is broadcast on cable television ....(no viewable)... Westwood One and Bill O'Reilly utilize this forum to preach the principles of the so-called "compasionate conservatism" espoused by George W. Bush and the Republican Party. The Defendants also use this forum to preach their belief in family values and to emoan the moral decline of politicians and others in positions of power.

Possible, considering the contributions that liberal lawyer has made to the Kerry campaign. Still, I think it's ammo for the defense.

You don't think the Left is going to play this for what they can get out of it?

Think about how the Right went after the NYT/Jason Blair and CBS/Rather.

Not to me but FOX reprsents the Right and the GOP and everything matters over the next 20 days.

I haven't watched O'Reilly in at least two years because I've seen him as a loudmouth jerk but this is much bigger than O'Reilly and I'm not laughing.

O'Harrassment is a liberal and probably a Democrat in reality. I, too., have thought him too easy of the lefties as of late. If this is true, it will only validate the fact that he is a leftie democrat type.

I like Michael but tired of hearing him talk about being sexually abused as a kid

Why would a man with that much to lose be willing to risk it for some phone sex, especially when he KNOWS what could happen to his career?

I just read parts of the transcript... EWWWWWW. How to get the image of him and his rubber toy on the phone OUT OF MY HEAD --- do I need sodium pentathol?

If this is true (and the details make it sound like she recorded these calls), no wonder I never could stand the guy.

I am sure his pregnant wife feels great about now. Poor thing.

Nah - I blew that off to a liberal lawyer wanting to get a good smack in.

A big democratic supporting lawyer two weeks before the presidential election. Right!

The lawsuit will be quietly withdrawn in mid-November. Too much political language in it to be taken seriously.

I agree. O'Reilly is coming unglued. And this lawsuit will unfortunately shine a light on his real character.

Looks like they may be trying go go after FOX, not only by suing O'Reilly but by besmirching Ailes in this suit.

About O'Reilly...throughout the years on both TV and radio he has made comments that portray his lack of respect for women and make me wonder if he is a womanizer (and that's saying it nicely). I saw the show where he interviewed the two prostitutes and I, as well as the person watching it with me, thought he seemed to be enjoying himself immensely. He seemed far TOO excited and it is interesting the complaint states that O'Reilly was excited on this occasion.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were something to all this, and that it may be as bad as it has been portrayed, though I am hoping the complaint is exxagerated.

You got it. See how they have already formed the link in the complaint.

Yes, you make a good point. If she had previously been subjected to his inappropriate comments, left, then came back already having experienced the comments, had dinner with him, etc., well, that, too makes one ask obvious questions. We'll have to see how this thing plays out. Should be interesting, but very, very painful for the players.

How could a guy so hung up on himself and his own fame SABOTAGE himself like this? I agree; it doesn't make sense. I can't BELIEVE how people bring themselves down. Couldn't he have afforded one of those pay sex calls? Why call his employee??

I don't think this will affect the election at all. It's not like it will go to trial anytime soon. Each side has weeks left to answer the repective suits. There will be no further developments on this until well after the election.
