Vanity - Kerry Citing and Using Republican Politicians in Debates
10-13-04 | Self

Posted on 10/13/2004 10:24:05 AM PDT by tallhappy

In the last debate Kerry would cite Republican politicians to make his points, implying they agreed with him and not the President. In this way Kerry tried to paint Bush as being out of step even with his own party and that Kerry is the more mainstream or less radical of the two candidates.

For examples:

John McCain

I think John McCain called the energy bill the "No Lobbyist Left Behind" bill.

I mean, you've got to stand up and fight somewhere, folks.

and

Number two, John McCain and I have a proposal, jointly, for a commission that closes corporate giveaway loopholes. We've got $40 billion going to Bermuda. We've got all kinds of giveaways. We ought to be shutting those down.

Marc Racicot

Former Governor Racicot, as chairman of the Republican Party, said he thought that the Patriot Act has to be changed and fixed.

Jim Sensenbrenner

Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, he is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said over his dead body before it gets renewed without being thoroughly rechecked.

______

Kerry will do this again tonight, I'm sure.

In each case what President Bush should do is respond by asking one question:

Senator Kerry, who does John McCain support and endorse for President, you or me?

Senator Kerry, who does Marc Racicot support and endorse for President, you or me?

If these Republicans are so great that Kerry cites them then why are they all supporting Bush?

Kerry's trying to appeal to both of his bases, without offending the other one.

Sensenbrenner and Racicot both reputiated Kerry's statements about them.

Not that that matters to Kerry/Edwards or the MSM.

I agree that some of them are giving fodder to Kerry.

Actually what Kerry said Sensenbrenner had stated about the Patriot Act was false. Sensenbrenner issued a statement the day after the 2nd debate to set the record straight on what Kerry said about Sensenbrenners comment on the Patriot Act. Kerry cannot have it both ways.

Kerry is putting words in their mouths. I know for a fact he was repudiated by both Sensenbrenner (in a press release) and Racicot (On Greta's FNC program).

He should counter with how that Joe Biden didn't pout when his co-sponsored-with-Kerry substitute $87B amendment failed and, instead, supported the Bush $87B bill.

Sensenbrenner and Racicot both reputiated Kerry's statements about them.

As did Paul Bremer.

But really, there's nothing more repulsive than hearing Le Lurch constantly evoking the name of Ronald Reagan. Too bad Nancy's too apolitical to come out an repudiate that.

But all Bush has to do is ask Kerry who is Nancy Reagan on the record supporting for president?

Kerry would stammer and if he answered it would have to be very embarrassing for him to say Bush.

I'd like to hear Bush say something like: "It's a little strange to hear the Senator comparing himself to a man whose presidency he characterized as a period of "moral darkness". Senator Kerry fought President Reagan every step of the way while they were in Washington together, and now the Senator says he wants to emulate him?"

Isn't it interesting, though, that Kerry can't seem to find a Democrat to quote?

Actually, I think Bush should play the same game. For example, I bet Kerry voted against the welfare reform bill that Bill Clinton signed, for example.

Bush should reverse the attack and turn this one into prosecution of Kerry's senate record. A sure way to win on this.
"Senator Kerry, what have you done for me lately?"....
90 minutes of silence...
