I just think the costs of making these productions is very low and so is the level of skill needed to do so.
Let's say these 2 on the tape are in America. All they would need is a room in an apartment, a digital video camera, and a broadband connection. They create the tape, send it to someone who sends it to someone. The tape finds itself in the hands of the as Sahab people/person. The as Sahab people/person adds the logo, the translation, and some design. Everything is put on VHS or CD/DVD and dropped in a mailbox.
Now, lets say as Sahab already has a tape of UBL or gets one the same day the news of this American tape comes out. They go through the production process and let it hit the street. There is no translation needed for the UBL tape, so the production process would be much quicker.
Both production tapes originated in Pakistan.
I'm not sure if #2 was in response to #1, or #1 was a predecessor to #2... Heck, they may be (probably are) mutually exclusive. Thing is, whether these underlings are under dirrect command or not... they have evil intentions and may be in the U.S.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. They could easily send the tape via the 'Net.
Thing is, he does not see himself as a global terrorist. In many ways (outside psychological terrorism) he is not a terrorist per se. The men who carried out the attacks on 9/11 or the ones who blow themselves up on a bus are the true terrorists.
bin Laden sees himself as leading a global insurgency against the apostate regimes of the Middle East and the equally 'evil' west. In many ways, his goals are the same as the goals of other insurgent leaders. He sees himself as righteous and honest in his cause.
I think he was not in military garb because he is now relatively safe. If you watch this video he looks to be in relatively good shape. People wanted to have him dead or on his death bed over the past year or two. He was clearly not a gravely-ill man on this tape.
I suspect that he is in fairly good (for him) company in Pakistan. I know that there have been many stories that he is in a bind and nearly captured. I think the fact that this video was aired should prove those hopes to be off base. A caged man is not able to send messages out to the world.

Sometimes it is like trying to navigate a maze of mirrors trying to discern what to actually take seriously and what to dismiss. Even more challenging is that effective disinformation has to have large elements of truth to be credible.
IIRC, 12/26/03 was the week where national authorities were deeply concerned over WMD smuggled onto planes originating overseas and being detonated over or near a city.
The timing of the (12/26/03) Ablaj threat is very interesting as it ties in with the original NYC/LA/DC pre-Ramadan threats and may be linked to the holiday flight cancellations.
This "operational phase" never ended. It has been repeatedly disrupted or delayed. It is what is culminating IMHO.
The repetition of the December 2003 sequence of events with regard to UBL signals corroborates other recent evidence that they are seeking to repeat the same method of attack.

Intelligence indicating that al Qaeda terrorists are seeking to release a chemical or biological agent aboard an airliner, or transport a radiological device in cargo, was one of the factors that prompted the cancellation of six international flights scheduled for today and tomorrow, senior administration officials familiar with the reports said yesterday. The intelligence on a weapon of mass destruction remains vague, and officials remain concerned about hijackings and other methods. The use of such weapons would be a new tactic.
All the canceled flights are overseas flights arriving in the United States, as were the flights by foreign carriers canceled around Christmas. But yesterday, for the first time, a flight by a U.S.-based carrier was canceled. Continental Airlines Flight 17, scheduled to fly today from Glasgow, Scotland, to Los Angeles with a stop in Newark, was canceled because the carrier was "unable to obtain the necessary security clearances from the Department of Homeland Security and their international counterparts," a Continental spokesman said.

Someone can burn a dvd on their computer, pop it over to Pakistan and the "clouds organization" (sahab) can dupe it to video. Or vice versa.
Sahab does the editing and adds the subtitling and other effects, and there are messages in the Arabic forums to this effect, so they can certainly finish a communication with logos, etc.
Hmmm, those are possible suspects. However, there is a multitude of beady eyed, pinched eyebrow dim actors to choose from. We need a retina scan. Ya know, those eyes look like the devils's in rosemary's baby. Who the heck is that guy, argghh.

This is so darn true that it's not even funny. I was at a birthday party this morning and not one of the adults knew an OBL video was even released. Sad. I sometimes wish I could bury my head in the sand too.

I think so. I just get confused in wondering what the next excuse for any attack is going to be. Although I'm sure they'll come up with something, up until now it's been hate Bush campaign so I have to wonder if this is really his vote for Kerry campaign or if he/AQ's counting on the American people telling him to go to hell via electing Bush. That'll just hand him his justification of attacking innocents on a silver platter.
I had the same experience with a group of bank tellers today. I pulled out a bit of cash to have on hand "just in case". I mentioned to the teller that it is a good idea to have some cash and a full tank of gas for the next few days or so. She looked at me with the deer in headlights look.
The other teller girls listened in as I explained. If everything passes with no trouble, I still have the money and a tank of gas. If the threats on the tape are real, I might be unable to get the things I need to take care of my family for several day or more. They all nodded their heads slowly as the possibility of real danger sunk in. The security cop was leaning on the counter and admitted it probably was a good idea. I walked off knowing I may have damped the Halloween party spirit, but may have helped 4-5 families take some action to prepare.

Donna, I thought the imam at the mosque that Gadahn used to attend in the LA area definitely identified him on the film.
That was on Fox last night. He watched the video 3 times, according to the reporter who did this segment and showed him the video, and after much consideration watching it carefully, he said it was Gadahn.
This was the imam who I think converted the guy, the same imam who was assaulted by Gadahn.
Maybe the feds don't accept it though.

What about the Zawahiri tape that came out on October 1st that urged all young islamofascists to go ahead on their own if their leaders were killed or captured. Then 4 weeks later TWO tapes roll out from their leaders? Al Q is in disarray. The messages are conflicting and uncoordinated. Either that or they are all not from AQ.
