WASHINGTON -- The pilot flying the Airbus that crashed into a Queens neighborhood three years ago caused the tail of the plane to tear off in mid-flight by his "unnecessary and excessive" use of the plane's rudder, the National Transportation Safety Board concluded Monday in the culmination of an exhaustive accident investigation.

The five-member board was unanimous in its finding, but disagreed on the importance of what it found were two contributing factors in the Nov. 12, 2001 crash -- a training program used by American Airlines that taught pilots to use the rudder when the plane is out of control, and the design of the rudder pedals of the Airbus 300-600 model.

In the end, the presidentially appointed board voted 3-2 to emphasize a problem with the sensitivity of the Airbus rudder pedals over American's pilot training program.

The Airbus 300-600 crashed into Belle Harbor shortly after taking off from Kennedy Airport on a flight to the Dominican Republic. The fiery crash, which killed 265 people, occurred just two months after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 and initially raised fears of terrorism.

But it quickly became obvious to investigators that the issue involved the actions of the pilot as he moved the rudder back and forth in response to wake turbulence from a nearby Boeing 747.

The rudder, a large movable flap on the tail, is used to keep the plane flying straight if one engine has failed or if the pilot has to land in a crosswind. "The rest of the time, your feet should be on the floor," said Capt. David Ivey, an NTSB investigator.

This Travel Warning is being issued to alert Americans to continuing security concerns in Nepal. On October 26, the Department of State lifted the authorized departure of non-emergency personnel and family members of the U.S. Embassy. The suspension of Peace Corps activities, which was announced on September 14, 2004, will continue until further notice. This supersedes the Travel Warning dated September 14, 2004.


The Department of State urges U.S. citizens to defer non-essential travel to Nepal. Maoist supreme commander Prachanda issued a press statement on July 1, 2004, threatening to use "more violent means" if peace talks with the Government of Nepal are not forthcoming or are unsuccessful. The Embassy has received information that the Maoists may attempt to attack or take actions specifically against U.S. citizens as part of that contingency, particularly in regions of the country under Maoist control. On September 10, two bombs exploded at the American Center compound. There were no injuries, but the blasts damaged the facility.


The Department of State has designated the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) as a Terrorist Organization under the "Terrorist Exclusion List" of the Immigration and Nationality Act and under Executive Order 13224. These two designations make Maoists excludable from entry into the United States and bars U.S. citizens from transactions such as contribution of funds, goods, or services to, or for the benefit of the Maoists.


On a number of occasions, Maoists have burned or bombed tourist resorts after the foreigners staying there were given short notice to evacuate. Maoists also detonate bombs periodically within Kathmandu itself. Several bombs have exploded in Thamel, a tourist hub.


U.S. citizens are advised to avoid road travel outside the Kathmandu Valley unless they have reliable information that they can proceed safely in specific areas at specific times. In March 2004, Maoist leaders announced road closures (blockades) in certain western and southern districts of Nepal. However, the Embassy received widespread reports of Maoists forcibly blocking major roads throughout the country, including roads to Tibet, India, Chitwan, Pokhara, and Jiri. In late Spring 2004, Maoists forcibly blocked all traffic in areas surrounding Pokhara, preventing the departure of tourists for an extended period and causing some to miss their international flights from Kathmandu. Other district centers have been blockaded without warning. U.S. citizens are encouraged to contact the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu for the latest security information, and to travel by air whenever possible.


Because of heightened security risks, U.S. official personnel do not generally travel by road outside the Kathmandu Valley. All official travel outside Kathmandu Valley, including by air, requires specific clearance by the Regional Security Officer. As a result, emergency assistance to U.S. citizens may be limited. Active duty military and DoD contractors must obtain a country clearance for official and unofficial travel to Nepal.


U.S. citizens who travel or reside in Nepal despite this Travel Warning should factor the potential for violence into their plans, avoid public demonstrations and maintain low profiles while in Nepal. U.S. citizens are urged to register with the Consular Section of the Embassy by accessing the Embassy's home page at http://www.south-asia.com/USA, by e-mail to WardenKTM@state.gov, or by personal appearance at the Embassy. Solar & lunar eclipses that both occur during Ramadan in the period 2001-2010 are in 2002 (4 Dec & 20 Nov respectively), 2003 (23 Nov & 8 Nov respectively), 2004 (14 Oct & 28 Oct respectively) and 2005 (3 Oct & 17 Oct respectively). The path/visibility of the eclipses are as follows :

Only in the case of the 2005 eclipses, both the eclipses will be visible from the Middle East and part of the Arab world. The path of greatest visibility of the 2005 annular solar eclipse taking place on 3rd October will be Spain ->, Algeria -> Libya -> East Africa. However, annular or partial eclipse will be observedfrom the whole of Europe, Middle East including the Arabian Peninsula, Africa, Iran and India."

Note that the author says that ONLY IN 2005 WILL BOTH LUNAR AND SOLAR ECLIPSES BE VISIBLE IN THE MIDDLE EAST.

I guess what the above boils down to is ... they'll hit US if they can.

I think Bin Laden and his band of brothers are complete fruitcakes, and what I cannot believe is how many people in the middle east and elsewhere think they are hero's ... they have turned every country they've been in to sh*t ... they kill women and kids for no good reason ... they SAW innocents' heads off ... they call their leaders "Lord" and nobles ... they like to institute Sharia ... and they quote Teddy Kennedy ;)

Suspicious Substance Found on Truck (Michigan)

The bomb squad is investigating a truck that state police pulled over on I-75 southbound near Crooks Rd. in Troy Tuesday morning.

Troopers are concerned about a possible toxic substance inside the truck.

According to police, the interstate is still open, but the onramp to southbound I-75 from Crooks Rd. is closed.

Investigators have moved the truck to a nearby park, and are attempting to determine what substance is inside the barrels.

I was so focused on the two eclipses, I didn't think of the "blood moon."

I DO remember walking outside on break at work one or two Friday nights after 9/11, noticing that there were no planes in the air, and noticing the blood red moon, visible in southern US at the time ...
